Jess Icon Breaks Maiden For The Upset In The $22,500 Desert Classic Futurity Consolation

PHOENIX, AZ–APRIL 29, 2025–After a steady bid for the wire, Jess Icon breaks his maiden on Tuesday with a photo finish in the $22,500 Desert Classic Futurity Consolation at Turf Paradise.

Ridden by Jacob Enriquez, Jess Icon broke swiftly from the gates in second place. The son of One Famous Icon pulled up late at the wire to win the nod by a nose over post-time favorite True Tell and jockey Luis Valenzuela. Hw Tellum Sweetly, piloted by Oscar Andrade, followed in third by a neck.

With a six mph headwind, Jess Icon clocked the winning time in 16.340 seconds for the upset, which paid $24.00 on 10-1 odds. The 13,275 payday boosted his earnings to $13,355, improving his record to one win from two starts.

Trainer Umberto Belloc saddled Jess Icon for owner Erica Carreon. Martin Lopez bred him in Arizona out of Blak Sugar by Azoom.

Runner-up True Tell has yet to break maiden and earned $4,275 for her second-place effort. Trainer Matt Fales conditions the daughter of second-year sire Tell Cartel for owner Jerrahty LLC. Martha Well bred $17,000 Los Alamitos Equine Sale repurchase out of Getit Together by Separatist.

Pedro Urias Soto trains third-place finisher Hw Tellum Sweetly for owner-breeder Harold Wright. Also sired by Tell Cartel,  the maiden filly is out of Streakns Easy by Mr Corona Cash.

D Guy, Cyber Finale, Big Cash Daddy, Heat Commander, Texas Returns, Nasdboy, and Kimorah round out the order of finish.
