PHOENIX, AZ—APRIL 8, 2025—Ts Kiss My Tail by first-crop sire Cyber Monday recorded the fastest qualifying time while second-crop sire Tell Cartel sired half the field and two trial winners during four Desert Classic Futurity trials contested Tuesday afternoon at Turf Paradise Racecourse.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to the Phoenix raceway on Tuesday, April 29, to vie for the winner's share of the $83,600 purse going 300 yards.
Never headed, jockey Jose Rodriguez booted Tis Kiss My Tail to a one-length win over Famous In Lace in the final trial to get the fastest qualifying time of 15.840 seconds, an 88-speed index. Let go at 20-1, the Iowa-bred returned $41.40 to win, $15.20 to place, and $6 to show.
William Haris saddled the brown gelding in his career debut for owner Tom J. Scheckel. Dunn Ranch bred Kiss My Tail from RG1-placed Tres Seis mare A Tres Of Sign, a sister to Oklahoma Bred Derby([RG3) winner A Tres Of Paint. This is the family of Ruidoso Futurity(G1) winner First Valiant Sign.
Leading second-crop sire Tell Cartel had a big day, winning the first two trials and siring five qualifiers, including Alittelesstalk, Stellaaa, Block N Tell, First Down Karma, and Say It's Not So. Trainer Matthew M. Fales conditions all five horses.
