Broadbent Collects Top Honors In $349,620 New Mexican Spring Futurity [RG2]

SUNLAND PARK, NM–APRIL 5, 2025–Fastest qualifier from the trials, Broadbent, remains undefeated after returning for the win in the $349,620 New Mexican Spring Futurity [RG2] on Saturday at Sunland Park.

Broadbent came away rough out of the gates, but despite the troubled start, he collected top honors for his second career win under qualifying jockey, Luis Flores-Garcia. The son of New Mexico’s leading sire Eye Am King clocked a 91 speed index against a 13 mph crosswind in 15.238 seconds.

Favored to win, the 300-yard, 3/4-length victory over Highcardforapoke paid $5.80 to win on 9-5 odds. Highcardforapoke, piloted by Luis Martinez, placed second, clocking an 88 speed index and Holliday, with jockey Noe Garcia Jr in the saddle, placed third.

MJ Farms bred Broadbent from the Blushing Bug stakes-placed mare. Bridgette Bordeaux. He is a full brother to stakes winner Vintage Bourdeaux and half-brother to Grade 3 winner Jess Boardeaux.

Trainer Eric Valenzuela saddled the $88,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate for the owners of Tungsten Racing Partnership. Now two for two, Broadbent has $171,396 from two starts.

Trainer Zavier Rodriguez conditions runner-up Highcardforapoke for owner Bert Eldridge. The son of Rrelentless has yet to break his maiden from two starts and has $65,316 in earnings. J & L Stables LLC bred the brown gelding out of Top Flite Ace by Hawkinson

Third place finisher Holliday, who won his trial heat has a record of 1-0-3 from two starts with $45,123 in the bank. His owner Alepony LLC purchased him for $61,000 in the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale last year.

MJ Farms bred the son of Big Daddy Cartel from the Bigtime Favorite Mare Ms Jingles. Holliday is a half-brother to Jingle Wood, who was the runner up in today’s New Mexican Spring Fling Stakes.

Woodcutt, Bv China Dawl, Happyour, Icy Cartel, King Leonardo D, Moonlight Ember and Wilson Mc round out the order of finish.
