BOSSIER CITY, LA–MARCH 29, 2025–Last Eagle V holds the fastest qualifier Mamma Im Leaving You for the win in the $399,104 Mardi Gras Futurity [RG2] on Saturday at Louisiana Downs.
Last Eagle V drew the outside post, with jockey Yaidel Rodriguez getting the call. The son of Gold Heart Eagle V led the field from gate to wire, defeating Mamma Im Leaving You by 3/4-lengths. Clocking a 105-speed index in 15.271 seconds, the 300-yard victory paid $10.40 on the slight upset.
The $170,597 payday boosted Last Eagle V’s bankroll to $171,997, putting his first “W” on the records from two starts. The Eduardo Morales trained gelding placed second when qualifying for the finals.

Breeder Brian Gunder sold Last Eagle V to his current owner, Leobersi Perez, for $16,000 in the LQHBA Yearling Sale.
The sorrel gelding is out of Ifuaintfirstulast by First Down Dash. Last Eagle V is from the same female family as today’s Louisiana Downs Futurity [G2] winner, Di Kvn Corona.
Mamma Im Leaving You, under the guidance of jockey Bryan Candanosa, fought hard for the win but crossed the wire in second. Jessapilottrain, piloted by Daniel Sandoval-Granado, ran a game effort for show.
The $67,848 runner-up share of the purse increased Mamma Im Leaving You’s earnings to $72,048. Jose Espinosa trained the winning daughter of Coronas Leaving You for owner Jeantile Deville. Wiggins Acres LLC bred the $33,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate out of the Apollitical Jess mare Mamma Jamma Jamma, who is a half-sister to the dam of champion Apollitical Gold.
Jessapilottrain earned $39,911 for show, boosting his bankroll to $44,111. Grant Farms sold the son of Freighttrain B to his owner, Party Tyme Racing, for $24,000 in the LQHBA Yearling Sale. Jose Espinosa also trains the brown colt out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Miss Jess Lady Pilot, who is a half-sister to All American Futurity [G1] winner Mr Piloto.
Ladies Cruz Higher, Rf Fast Dash N Blood, One Dashing Mind, Kissin Jame, Luci B, Amys Game Changer, and Jaccx Sizzle complete the order of finish.
