Sonoran Foose Gets Biggest Win of Career In AQRA President's Spring Derby

PHOENIX, AZ—APRIL 19, 2015—Still a maiden just over a month ago, Sonoran Foose closed late to defeat post-time favorite Magical Righter by a half-length Sunday afternoon in the $33,060 AQRA President's Open Spring Derby at Turf Paradise. Jess A Cowboy finished a head behind in the show position.

Ridden by jockey David Reyes-Frisby, Sonoran Foose completed the 350 yards in :17.603 seconds, to earn a 99 speed index. Trainer Matthew Fales saddled the 3-year-old Foose colt for owner/breeder Alejandro Marcelo Camou.

The $16,530 winner's purse boosted his career total to $23,792 with a 2-3-2 record in eight starts. Sonoran Foose is out of the Separatist mare Biggist.

Stakes winner Magical Righter had to settle up for the second place check of $6,612 to bring her career total to $46,383. Benito Guillen Vega conditions the Righter filly for owner Amanda Casper. Bred in Arizona by Jose Holguin, the brown miss is out of Bf Fantastic Dream, by Mr Eye Opener. Emilio Tapia had the riding call.

Also a stakes winner last season, Jess A Cowboy picked up $3,306 for his effort. Matthew Fales trains Jess A Cowboy for owner/breeder Larry Stark. Russell Vicchrilli rode the Dejon gelding out of Secret Return, by Canth.

Apocalipto, All Right Now, Majestic Policy, Money Too Burn, Flying Thru Fire and Cruisen completed the field.
