Golden Boi Gets First Stakes Winner, Continues Lead On First Crop Sires List

MENIFEE, CA–JULY 11, 2026–Two-time AQHA Racing Champion and leading first-crop sire Golden Boi got his first stakes winner on Sunday when El Huracano V stormed home in the $1,000,000 Grade 1 Rainbow Futurity at The Downs at Albuquerque.

Valeriano Racing Stables LLC's homebred El Huracano V surged to the front entering the stretch and edged away late to capture the Grade 1, $1,000,000 Rainbow Futurity at The Downs at Albuquerque, earning the winner's share of $420,000 in the premier event for 2-year-old Quarter Horses.

The gelded son of Golden Boi out of Bellissima Chocolata, by Valiant Hero, covered the 400 yards in 19.185, earning a 99 speed index while defeating Think Twice Perry by three-quarters of a length into a 7 mph headwind over a fast racing surface.

El Huracano V ran his record to (5) 3-1-1. Two races back, he finished a close second in the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity at Remington Park and has rocketed to the top 2-year-old in the nation with earnings of $632,670.

Golden Boi is also the sire of several other notable stakes performers, including Ed Burke Million Futurity-G1 runner-up Faultless SI 94 ($161,500), West Texas Juvenile third-place finisher Promising SI 97 ($32,470), Sam Houston Futurity-G2 finalist Limites Sin B ($46,031) and Ruidoso Futurity-G1 finalist My Golden Boy SI 99 ($36,646).

Golden Boi is the only first-year-sire with a Grade 1 winner and earnings exceeding $1 million. The promising young stud has sired 23 winners, three black type horses, and $1.15 million in progeny earnings, with an average of over $17,200 per starter.

Golden Boi SI 98 ($721,647) won eight of 12 career starts while earning AQHA champion honors twice. His victories included the Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1), El Primero Del Año Derby (G2) and Sgt Pepper Feature Handicap. He also finished third in the Los Alamitos Super Derby (G1), California Breeders Freshman Stakes, and was a finalist in the Golden State Million Futurity (G1) and Z Wayne Griffin Directors Handicap.
