EVANSTON, WY–JUNE 10, 2026–Wyoming stallion Corona Surfer is proving his ability to sire speed, with Surfinoverthemoon posting the fastest qualifying times for both the Don Lockie Derby and the 307 Horse Racing Wyoming Bred Derby this 2026 season.
Bred by Walter Larson, Surfinoverthemoon is out of the stakes-winning mare Dashmetothemoon, by Mr Jess Perry. Trainer Jess Matt conditions the gelding for owner Lana Matt.
Surfinoverthemoon opened his 2026 derby campaign by posting the fastest qualifying time in for the Don Lockie Derby at Miles City on May 3. He covered 300 yards in :15.236, leading from gate to wire by 1 14-lengths, before returning in the May 16 final to finish third.
Surfinoverthemoon followed that effort with another wire-to-wire performance on June 5 at Wyoming Downs, where he recorded the fastest qualifying time for the $75,000-added 307 Horse Racing Wyoming Bred Derby. Under jockey Jacob Cardenas, he covered 350 yards in :17.529, winning by a half-length, to top all qualifiers for the June 21 final.
With a record of three wins, four seconds, and two thirds from 11 starts, Surfinoverthemoon has earned $40,875 while establishing himself as one of the leading Wyoming-bred three-year-olds of the season.
Corona Surfer is a full brother to AQHA Racing Champion Uncle D ($689,165), the Champion Two-Year-Old and Champion Two-Year-Old Colt who won the Grade 1 Rainbow Futurity and All American Juvenile Stakes while finishing second in the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity.
From seven crops to race, Corona Surfer has sired 34 winners from 60 starters. The three-time black-type sire has progeny earnings of more than $1.4 million and 14 stakes finalists.
From his limited starters, Corona Surfer has sired three $100,000+ money earners, including Sonny Surfer SI 93, a multiple stakes winning gelding with earnings of $155,978. He is also the sire of Hynson SI 102, a Zia 870 Championship Stakes finalist with earnings of 151,752, and Hush Yer Face SI 99, who was a stakes finalist at Sunland Park last year with earnings of $124,757.
Other top stakes horses include Shade Factor SI 98 ($89,578), Surfz Up SI 93 ($83,002), who was runner-up in the New Mexico State Fair Juvenile Stakes, Wahine SI 110 ($69,918), who was a finalist in the New Mexico Breeders Stakes-RG3 and New Mexico State Fair Juvenile.
Owned by Woods Farm and Chad Wood, the Grade 1 son of leading sire Corona Cartel, is standing the 2026 season at Woods Farm in Bear River Wyoming. An accredited Wyoming program stallion, his offspring are also eligible for the Beehive, Bitterroot, Arizona, and Minnesota programs.
