FOLSOM, LA–AUGUST 12, 2025–Imperial Hint, a multiple Grade 1 winning Thoroughbred and veteran Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred sire in Louisiana, has been euthanized following a lengthy struggle with laminitis. He was 12.
The son of Imperialism's death was announced Monday by Clear Creek Stud in Folsom, La., where he had been standing. In addition, semen was available to Quarter Horses through the Louisiana Center for Equine Reproduction in Opelousas.
"With the deepest condolences, we are saddened that Imperial Hint (TB) lost his battle with laminitis over the weekend," LACERS Stallion Manager Stephen Deville said. "Our hearts go out to Clear Creek Stud, who allowed us to be a part of such a neat stallion, and to allow him to be a part of our Quarter Horse racing industry."
A multiple Grade 1 winner of $2,209,055, Imperial Hint captured eleven stakes races and was stakes placed in another five.
At six, Imperial Hint set a new track record in the 2019 Grade 1 Vosburgh Stakes, running six furlongs in 1:07.92; a record still stands today for six furlongs at Saratoga Race Course. This was Imperial Hint’s second consecutive victory in the Vosburgh Stakes.
Imperial Hint also won the G1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap at Saratoga at both five and six, defeating champion sprinter Mitole in the 2020 running of that event.
From limited starters in two Thoroughbred crops to race, he sired 5 winners, 1 stakes winner, and 1 stakes-placed with average earnings per starter of $17,915. Also, in two Quarter Horse crops to race, he had 10 Quarter Horse winners of nearly $310,000 and average earnings of $8,604.
His top performers include Tdz Hint Of Power-TB, (3 wins to 3, $111,258 Louisiana Cup Juvenile S., 3rd-Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile S., etc.), Rf Imperial Choice SI 95 (4 wins to 3, $107,247, finalist Lee Berwick Futurity-RG1, Mardi Gras Futurity-RG2, etc.), Sweet Morgan Leigh-TB (winner to 3, $55,500 2nd-Louisiana Cup Juvenile Fillies S., etc.), Imperial Dynasty-TB (winner to 3, $31,930), Ss Kratos SI 93 (2 wins to 3, $31,555), Ruse Hint SI 93 (winner to 3, $25,010), etc.
Frozen semen is available to Quarter Horses for the 2026 breeding season.
"We will have further information as the season approaches," Deville said.
