ROSWELL, NM—JULY 23, 2025—Cavenaugh Quarter Horses LLC announced today that their champion sire Uncle D SI 96, the current leading second-crop sire of money earners for 2025, will stand the 2026 breeding season at Prestige Equine in Roswell, New Mexico. His stud fee will be set at $5,000.
“I am thankful for the care and love shown to Uncle D while at the Lazy E. As the leading second-year sire with over 2 million progeny earnings and a Grade 1 winner, Uncle D will return to familiar hands under the care of Renee Wilson and Clint Crawford. I am excited about the future of Prestige Equine and the new opportunities that await Uncle D in New Mexico,” said Uncle D's owner Fran Cavenaugh.
Uncle D has emerged as one of the sport’s top young sires, producing 42 winners and achieving an 11 percent black-type rate from only two crops to reach the racetrack. His offspring have amassed over $2 million in earnings, averaging more than $19,500 per runner.

Among his most notable progeny is Heavens Uncle SI 106, a six-time winner by age three and earner of $507,274, with victories including the Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity (G1) and Bob Moore Memorial Stakes (G2). Other top runners include Curlie D SI 94, who placed second in the Northlands Futurity and has banked $97,012; Anna Belle SI 95, winner of the FL Lady Bug Stakes and third-place finisher in the Prairie Meadows Gold Futurity with earnings of $93,930; and Can D Girl SI 95, who has won four races and earned $89,093, including a score in the Sandy Ridge Cherokee Stakes.
Other standouts sired by Uncle D, including Runninagainstdwind SI 106, who earned $68,098 and placed third in the QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Futurity (G3) as well as D Fawn SI 92, $34,943, who qualified to this year's Rainbow Oaks (G1), which was canceled due to the unfortunate flooding in Ruidoso.
A son of the late legendary sire Corona Cartel SI 97, Uncle D was the 2019 AQHA Racing Champion 2-Year-Old and Champion 2-Year-Old Colt. On the track, he won or placed in nine of ten career starts, compiling earnings of $689,165. His career was highlighted by victories in the Rainbow QH Futurity (G1) and the All American Juvenile, along with a runner-up finish in the Heritage Place Futurity (G1) and a finalist berth in the Rainbow Quarter Horse Invitational Stakes.
Corona Cartel, who passed away in 2019, left a lasting legacy in the breed, siring 200 stakes winners, 10 champions, and over 1,200 winners with progeny earnings exceeding $70.8 million. Among his elite runners are World Champion Blues Girl Too SI 105 ($2,032,328), champion Teller Cartel SI 108 ($1,212,471), champion Five Bar Cartel SI 91 ($1,068,825), and two-time champion Kvn Corona SI 95 ($868,077), all Grade 1 winners in their own right.
Uncle D’s dam, Little Surfer SI 104, set a track record and won the Hialeah Derby during her race career. She is a daughter of all-time leading sire First Down Dash and a full or half-sister to some of Quarter Horse racing’s most celebrated names, including three-time champion Ocean Runaway SI 105 ($1,642,498), World Champion Wave Carver SI 104 ($1,005,946), and Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1) winner Wave Her Down SI 95 ($436,415).
Little Surfer has produced 21 winners and 28 ROM, with five black-type earners and one champion. In addition to Uncle D SI 96 (see above), her notable offspring include Heritage Place Oaks winner Mrs Kvn SI 98 ($158,891), stakes winner Rip Tide SI 107 ($123,283), Cole Me Cole SI 93, third in the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity(G1), earner of $288,122, and Griffindore SI 91, who ran third in the Golden State Derby and earned $42,455.
