MENIFEE, CA–JULY 6, 2025 —The 2025 #6 leading second-crop sire Mpshinning notched his first stakes winner on Sunday when promising juvenile Dassault dug in gamely to capture the $208,650 Prairie Meadows Gold Futurity at Prairie Meadows.
Breaking sharply under jockey Alfredo Triana, Jr., Dassault stayed within striking distance throughout and surged past his rival in the final yards, stopping the clock in 17.818 seconds.
"He broke with them, I got after him and he gave me that extra gear," Triana, Jr. said after guiding the sorrel gelding to victory.

Bred in California by Steve D. Burns, DVM, Dassault is a 2-year-old gelding out of the Separatist mare Seperate Flight.
Owned by Lonnie Terwilliger and trained by John Hammes, he picked up the winner’s share of $93,892, boosting his bankroll to $97,261. The gelding, a $25,000 purchase at the 2024 Heritage Place Yearling Sale, secured his first win in three starts.
The productive weekend began on Saturday night (July 5) for Mpshinning, when he sired two finalists to the $400,000-est. Governor's Cup Futurity (RG1). Mayor Humdinger, owned, bred, and trained by Mike Casselman, qualified as the second-fastest, while Slatedtoshine, owned by Mark Smith and Shirley Schvaneveldt and trained by Roman Figueroa, also earned a spot in the final.
From two crops to reach racing age, Mpshinning has sired 10 winners, including one stakes winner and one stakes-placed runner, with combined earnings of over $340,000 and average earnings per starter of more than $15,470.
His top runners include Grade 1-placed Shiny New SI 99, a two-time winner at two who finished third in the Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1) and has banked $127,870. Dassault follows as his first stakes winner, while other earners such as Tt Reddi Shiner, Shimmery, Hardly Shining, and Mayor Humdinger continue to show promise.
A son of All American Futurity (G1) winner Mr Piloto, Mpshinning himself won or placed in 19 of 26 starts, earning $850,025. His race record includes victories in the LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity (RG1), Miss Polly Classic Stakes (RG2), Mid City Stakes (RG3), Gillespie County Fair Futurity, Sam's Town Stakes, and King William Stakes. He was runner-up in the Dash For Cash Futurity (G2), Dash For Cash Derby (G2), and Louisiana Champions Day QH Classic Stakes (RG2) twice, and placed third in the Vals Fortune Teddy Abrams Memorial Stakes.
Owned by James Markum and Steve Burns, Mpshinning stood the 2025 breeding season at Burns Ranch in Menifee, California, for $2,500. Contact Steve Burns, DVM, at (951) 301-0201 for additional information or breeding contracts.
