SHELBYVILLE, IN–SEPTEMBER 11, 2025–Winr Takes All took the top spot in the 13th running of the $62,960 Leader of the Class Sale Futurity at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
The freshman gelding was ridden by his Trainer German Rodriguez, who serves in both capacities for the young Indiana sired gelding.
Lead Me to the Beach and Edgar Diaz came into the race as the heavy favorites after establishing themselves on top of the list of qualifiers for the final. Winr Takes All finished second to her in the trials and the rematch was on when the gates opened.
Lead Me to the Beach was the first out of the gate and had a jump on the field, but Winr Takes All didn’t let her get too far in front. He quickly moved up to match her stride for stride as the two horses came through the 350-yard sprint together.
Both horses battled gamely to the wire with Winr Takes All getting the nod at the wire by a head over Lead Me to the Beach. Rodriguez’s other qualifier, Miss KTB 23, the final qualifier for the final, came up to finish third for Antonio Rodriguez, German’s cousin. Time for the Leader of the Class Sale Futurity Final was 17.987.

“He (Winr Takes All) broke good, but the five (Lead Me to the Beach) broke better,” admitted Rodriguez, who is in his first year as a trainer. “But once he got going, he stayed with her. When I started to ask, he gave me more.”
Winr Takes All paid $32.80 for the win. The son Eos A Political Win was bred by Roy Moore and is owned by Keith Bode and George Covey’s Quarter Shots Stables. It was the first win in five starts for Winr Takes All, a great place to break his maiden.
“This is one of my best friends (referring to Keith Bode) and we finally got one together,” said George Covey, part owner of Winr Takes All. “So, this horse is really special and even more special now.
Bode noted it was worth the wait to get into the winner’s circle. “This is the first win for me in a year and a half. Maybe now I got my foot in the door.”
Winr Takes All surged past the $40,000 earnings mark for Bode and Covey. He is the latest stakes winner from the stakes placed mare, Igottagoodee, the Oklahoma bred by Agouti.
Runner-up Lead Me To The Beach has a record of 2-1-1 from five starts with $49,332 in the bank, including a third place finish in the Gordon Mobley Futurity from July. Mark Michel and Tim and Casy Pequignot own the daughter of Escondido Beach.
Vanessa Fay Wilcox bred Lead Me To The Beach out of Sheza Classy Leader by Leader Of The Class. She was and $8,100 QHRAI Stallion Service Auction repurchase last year.
Rodriguez’s other entrant, Miss KTB 23 also joined in the winner’s circle photo for Winr Takes All. It’s been a great year for Rodriguez, who is now a multiple stakes winning jockey and trainer.
Miss Ktb is also bred and owned by Keith Bode. The daughter of Freighttrain B has yet to break her maiden but now has black type status from three starts. The bay filly oiut of Kt Perry by Mr Jess Perry was a $31,100 repurchase at last year’s QHRAI Stallion Service Auction.
“It is a privilege to ride and to train these horses,” added Rodriguez. “It takes a lot to train and to ride, but we have a great team right now and it’s going well.”
Rodriguez will no doubt be saddling numerous horses for the next all-Quarter Horse Day Saturday, October 4 featuring trials for the Miss Roxie Little Futurity, a Restricted Grade 3 event, and Governor’s Stakes, one of three stakes implemented in Indiana the first year of pari-mutuel action in 1997 at Hoosier Park.
Both events return the 10 fastest qualifiers for the finals Saturday, October 25 during Indiana Champions Day. Purses will be in excess of $1.1 million with the last half of the card dedicated to six Quarter Horse stakes. The first post is 11 a.m. on Indiana Champions Day.
The 23rd season of live Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing runs through Thursday, Nov. 13. For more information on racing at Horseshoe Indianapolis, visit www.caesars.com/horseshoe-indianapolis/racing or find details on social media @HSIndyRacing.
