Pretty Runaway Repeats in Ontario Sires Stakes Maturity at Ajax Downs

ONTARIO, CAN–AUGUST 31, 2025–Pretty Runaway defended her title in the $39,330 Ontario Sires Stakes Maturity on Sunday at Ajax Downs, securing back-to-back victories in the prestigious race for older Ontario-sired runners.

With jockey Ismael Mosqueira aboard, the 8-year-old mare stumbled at the break but recovered strongly, stopping the clock in 17.110 seconds for 330 yards with a 91 speed index. The victory was worth $12,717 (US) for owner-trainer James Bogar, boosting her lifetime earnings to $129,692.

Pretty Runaway, a daughter of Winners Award, has proven to be a consistent stakes mare with 10 career wins and 24 top-three finishes from 37 starts.

She is out of Pretty Jane Perry, by Pretty Boy Perry, and was bred in Ontario by Heste Sport Inc. Sunday’s triumph marked her third career stakes win, which also includes the 2019 Ontario Sires Stakes Futurity.

A Shades Of Cold, third place finisher in last year’s renewal, improved his placing to second this time out. Ridden by Juan Botello for trainer Jason Pascoe and owner-breeder Amelie Aubut, the 5-year-old gelding was up for place by three-quarters of a length.

The son of Cold Hard Dash is out of Sassy Shades of Gray, by Fire Finder. He has now compiled 10 wins with multiple stakes placings, including a fourth-place finish in this year’s Norman Picov Maturity.

General Skywalker, a 4-year-old son of Look At Magics Form, completed the trifecta another 3/4-lengths back. Jockey Ramiro Castillo was in the irons for trainer Bob Broadstock and owner-breeder Marie Broadstock. He is out of Katies Award, by Winners Award, and is a nine-time stakes finalist, including a victory in the Ajax Stallion Auction Futurity during his freshman campaign.
