One Fast Cajun Wins the Faubourg St John Stakes For Second Time In His Career

VINTON, LA–AUGUST 29, 2025–Favored to win, One Fast Cajun stamped his class again on Friday night at Delta Downs, drawing clear by three lengths to win the $35,000 Faubourg St John Stakes at 870 yards for the second time in his career.

In just his second start of the season, he bounced back from a troubled sixth-place finish in the Live Oaks Stakes on July 12. Ridden by Ubaldo Luna, the 7-year-old completed the race in 46.706 seconds, earning an 87 speed index.

The winner's share of $21,000 increased One Fast Cajun’s total earnings to $300,800. Over the course of 31 starts, he has achieved 15 wins, two second-place finishes, and three third-place finishes.

Friday’s score marked his seventh career stakes triumph, adding to previous victories in the Races And Aces Stakes (three times), the Live Oak Stakes, and the Virgil Bond Stakes. It was also his second Faubourg St John Stakes win, having taken the race in 2022 with Luna aboard, and he finished third in last year’s renewal.

Buckle Up Blue finished second under Paulina Ramirez, three lengths behind the winner, before a late surge secured the place. He is a son of Jess Louisiana Blue out of Meadow Ashlee (TB) by Meadowlake (TB). The 4-year-old sorrel gelding was bred by Jim & Natalie Montgomery and is trained by Gary Mason for owner Amber Mason.

It was his first appearance in a stakes competition. A $3,700 purchase at the 2022 LQHBA Yearling Sale, he has started 15 times with two wins, six seconds, and one third for $61,190

Jess Catch This checked in third, with Jose Rodriguez in the irons, another 1/2 length back. Out of Iloveyoubluetoo by Jess Louisiana Blue, the 7-year-old sorrel gelding was bred in Louisiana by Dutcher Jumonville.

The son of Feature Mr Bojangles is owned by Rodney Woods and trained by Phillip Calais, Jr. A finalist in last year’s Live Oak Stakes, this effort marked his first black type from 33 starts, which include 10 wins, three seconds and six thirds with $141,095 in earnings.

Easy Jumpn Jet, Your Beehind Honey, and Queen of Power completed the order of finish.
