FREDERICKSBURG, TX—AUGUST 23, 2025—Fast Flyer 123 delivered a record-setting performance on Saturday, capturing the $35,250 Gillespie County Fair Sprint Classic Stakes at Gillespie County Fairground with a time of 13.011 seconds for 250 yards on a fast track.
Facing a 10-mph crosswind, the three-year-old sorrel colt broke sharply under jockey Victor Urieta Jr. and powered to the lead, holding off a determined late surge from Embers Time to win by a neck and establish a new track record with a speed index of 111.
The previous record of 13.092 seconds was set on August 28, 2021, by Ss Classyjess.
Bred in Oklahoma by Sam W. Green, Fast Flyer 123 is by Flying Cowboy 123 out of Uptowne Babe, by Mr Jess Perry. He is owned by Triple Five and trained by Oscar Constancio Jr.
Purchased for $450,000 at the 2023 Heritage Place Yearling Sale, the colt earned $21,150 for his victory, adding to an already impressive resume. He has earned $104,775 with a second-place effort in the Sam Houston Derby(G3) in June. He was also a finalist in the Texas Classic Juvenile at Lone Star Park last year.
Finishing a neck behind in second was multiple stakes winner Embers Time, a three-year-old bay filly by Pyc Prize Time out of Fancy Embrujos, by Embrujo FG.
Bred in Texas by Alejandro Moya, she is owned by Javier Lujan and trained by Martin Rodriguez. With Alejandro Ochoa in the irons, Embers Time broke sharply, maintained solid speed throughout, and collected $7,050 for her effort.
A $5,000 purchase at the 2023 TQHA Yearling Sale, she demonstrated sharp form and continues to impress. He has banked $135,253 in 13 starts and entered today off a win in the TQHA 250 Stakes his last start, July 25.
Third place went to Goodtime In Texas, a four-year-old sorrel filly by Duponte out of Keep It Royal, by Givinitaroyaleffort. Bred by Connie Nobles in Texas, she is owned by John A. Obregon and trained by Jose Uriegas Jr.
Ridden by Jose Herbert, she closed strongly late, finishing just a head behind the runner-up to earn $3,525 to boost her earnings to $68,911. Goodtime In Texas was purchased for $4,500 at the 2022 TQHA Yearling Sale.
The pari-mutuel payouts reflected the highly competitive field, as Fast Flyer 123 returned $15.40 to win, $6.40 to place, and $5.40 to show. Embers Time paid $5.00 to place and $2.80 to show, while Goodtime in Texas returned $3.60 to show.
Completing the order of finish were Jeg Fascination in fourth, Ima Chili in fifth, Wagon High in sixth, Gulf Coast Flyer in seventh, Lucky Luke in eighth, and Shesa Otoole Yawls in ninth.Striking Breeze was scratched.
