FREDERICKSBURG, TX—AUGUST 10, 2025—Frasier posted the fastest qualifying time from nine trials Sunday afternoon at Gillespie County Fairgrounds for the $130,400 Gillespie County Fair Derby final to be held Sunday, August 24.
The 3-year-old gelded son of multiple stakes sire This Is An Eagle was making his first start since a runner-up effort in the Silver Bullet Stakes at Retama Park in late June and responded with a determined nose victory in the opening trial.
Under jockey Oliver E. Martinez, Frasier dueled throughout with eventual second-fastest qualifier Puro Chilitos before stopping the timer in 17.712 seconds for 350 yards, earning a 92 speed index.
Bred in Texas by Tommy and/or Johanna Bullard, Frasier is out of the Shazoom mare Zoom In On Me and is owned by Carrillo Racing and trained by Abraham Carrillo.
Puro Chilitos, a $42,000 TQHA Yearling Sale graduate, chased Frasier gamely to finish second in the same trial, recording the day’s second-fastest time of 17.727 seconds, also a 92 speed index.
The gelded son of leading second-crop sire Chilitos is out of Bodacious Lil Lady by Bodacious Dash and was bred in Texas by Cuatro Garzas Farm LLC. Rigoberto Aguilar owns Puro Chilitos, with Victor Oviedo training and H. Javier Hernandez in the irons.
Third-fastest qualifier honors went to Ra Coronado, who captured the second trial in wire-to-wire fashion. The Coronado Cartel gelding, bred and owned in Texas by Rigoberto Aguilar, is out of Hiclass Madam by Hiclass La Jolla.
Trained by Carlos A. Fierro and ridden by Nestor Duran, Ra Coronado covered the distance in 17.733 seconds with a 92 speed index, cruising to the finish with three-quarters length to spare.
