TILLAMOOK, OR–AUGUST 9, 2025–The $11,100 Sand and Sea Stakes (not black type) at the Tillamook County Fair on Saturday, August 9, 2025, produced a thrilling finish, with The Great One prevailing by a head over veteran runner Warhock, with Lee Five T another neck back in third.

The 220-yard dash for 3-year-olds and up was contested over a fast track in clear, 73-degree weather, with no wind. The Great One stopped the clock in 11.580 seconds, earning a 92 speed index and the winner’s share of $5,550.

Breaking from post five under jockey Jake Samuels, The Great One, a 3-year-old sorrel gelding by champion Foose out of One Famous Strawfly by One Famous Eagle, broke sharply and dueled gamely to the wire.

Bred in Oregon by Matt Huse, he is owned by his breeder and trained by Freddy Ibarra. The Great One has won or placed in seven of 15 career starts and earned $24,823.

Runner-up Warhock, a multiple stakes winning 10-year-old sorrel gelding by Zoomin For Bux out of Copa Show Girl by Corona Cartel, broke from the rail with jockey Jaime Lopez aboard.

Bred in Oregon by Hayden Brothers Ranch, Warhock races for Malon L. Cowgill and is conditioned by Benito Curiel. Despite a bobbled start and some bumping, he battled determinedly to miss by just a head, earning $2,775. He has earned $111,430 off a (43) 12-13-8 record.

Third-place finisher Lee Five T, a 3-year-old sorrel colt by Five Bar Cartel out of L Bar D Bonnie Lee by Giorgino, was forced out in mid-stretch but held on well.

Bred in Oregon by Hernan Torres, he is owned by Jose Luis Torres-Arenas and trained by Jose Torres. Ridden by Erick Garcia, Lee Five T earned $1,332.

Pari-mutuel payoffs: The Great One returned $10.80 to win, $3.20 to place, and $3.80 to show. Warhock paid $3.20 to place and $4.60 to show. Lee Five T paid $5.40 to show.

The field, in order of finish, was: The Great One, Warhock, Lee Five T, Bv Mary Rose, Cds Its Only Money, Ps Rocky Mountain, and L Bar D Rosie Lee.
