EVANSTON, WY—AUGUST 2, 2025— Veteran runner Pappajeto, a 9-year-old gelding bred in Utah, surged from the gate and held off a pair of fast-closing rivals to capture the $17,500 Don Pedro Dash Stakes at Wyoming Downs on Saturday.

Covering the 100-yard distance in 6.597 seconds, the son of Pappasito earned a speed index of 83 and collected the winner’s share of $10,500 for owners David K. and Linda Burt.

Ridden with precision by Jose Olivo and trained by Burt Stoney, Pappajeto broke sharp from post 2 under an 8 mph crosswind, seizing the lead and holding on by a neck margin at the wire. The bay gelding is out of Streaking Secrets, a daughter of A Streak of Cash, and was bred by his owners. The 18-time winner has banked $113,447 in 40 career starts.

Finishing second in a valiant effort was multiple stakes-placed Mysterious Cartel, a 3-year-old sorrel colt by champion Five Bar Cartel and out of Mysterious Night, by Valiant Hero.

Bred in Texas by J/R Robicheaux and Spanish Moss QH, the $31,000 2023 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate is owned and trained by Luis Gonzalez and was ridden by Cesar Moreno. Mysterious Cartel was just a neck back at the wire, earning $3,500 to boost his earnings to $94,891.

Third-place honors went to Pappas Fame, a 4-year-old sorrel gelding by Pappasito out of Makn Fame by Maknmoves, bred in Wyoming by Ron and Laurie Moosman.

Owned by Eddie Jensen, trained by Kylie Valenzuela, and ridden by Jesus Valenzuela, the gelding overcame a slow start and came on late to finish another neck back. Collecting $1,750 for his effort, the multiple stakes winner boosted his bankroll to $219,499.

In the wagering pools, Pappajeto returned $11.20 to win, $5.20 to place, and $3.60 to show. Mysterious Cartel paid $4.40 and $3.20, while Pappas Fame returned $4.20 to show.

The also-rans in the Don Pedro Dash Stakes were Feature Mr Rabbit (4th), Bee a Freight Train (5th), Sheza Bugatti (6th), Drive (7th), Game for Corona Hot (8th), Sj Illusive N Shady (9th), and Isa Super Freak (10th)
