TULSA, OK–JULY 19, 2025–Set On Cruise delivered a gritty performance on Saturday evening to capture the $20,000 Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Juvenile at Fair Meadows Race Course.

The Texas-bred filly battled through a 15 mph headwind to win the 350-yard dash by a head, stopping the clock in 17.923 seconds and earning a speed index of 89.

Ridden by Cody Smith and trained by Matt Whitekiller, the daughter of leading Paint sire CRM Livewire out of Lindys Sign, by Second Painted Sign, made her move midway and held off a determined rally from Upshot in the final strides.

Bred and owned by Dan and Kaye Jones, Set On Cruise earned $11,838 for the victory, increasing her career earnings to $22,858 from five starts.

Upshot, an Oklahoma-bred gelding by Quarter Horse champion Uncle D out of Fade Shot, by Fade to Fame, surged late under jockey Jesus Ayala but could not get past the winner.

He is trained by Dee Keener for owner Kelly Yother Equine, LLC, and was bred by Kelly J. Garvan and J. Lloyd Yother. The second-place effort was worth $3,946, raising his earnings to $7,526.

Vexing Queen, also trained by Dee Keener, pressed the pace early under Mario Delgado but faded to third, three-quarters of a length behind Upshot. The daughter of Painted Turnpike out of Wired for Royalty, by CRM Livewire, was bred by Jay Ross and is owned by 918 Bloodstock. She earned $2,170 for the effort, pushing her career earnings to $19,285.

Set On Cruise returned $20.40 to win, $7.00 to place, and $4.40 to show. Upshot paid $4.60 to place and $5.80 to show, while Vexing Queen returned $4.00 to show.

Slingshot Engaged finished fourth, followed by Mia Chilitos in fifth, Run for Miles in sixth, Jt Apollitical Dee in seventh, and Royal Chil in eighth.
