ALTOONA, IA—JULY 6, 2025—Dassault dug in gamely to win the $208,650 Prairie Meadows Gold Futurity on Sunday, July 6, prevailing by a neck over Relentless Country in a fast and competitive final for two-year-old Quarter Horses going 350 yards.
Breaking sharply under jockey Alfredo Triana, Jr., Dassault stayed within striking distance and surged past his rival late, stopping the clock in 17.818 seconds, earning a speed index of 86 with a 5 mph tailwind on a fast track.
"He broke with them, I got after him and he gave me that extra gear," Triana, Jr., said after guiding the promising sorrel gelding to the wire.
Bred in California by Steve D Burns DVM, Dassault is a 2-year-old gelding by second-crop sire Mpshinning out of the Separatist mare Seperate Flight.

Owned by Lonnie Terwilliger and trained by John Hammes, Dassault picked up the winner’s share of $93,892. The gelding was a $25,000 purchase at the 2024 Heritage Place Yearling Sale. It was the first win in three starts for Dassault who pushed his bankroll to $97,261.
Relentless Country, owned by Tom Maher, delivered a strong performance to finish a close second, earning $37,557 for his connections. The gray gelding, bred in Oklahoma by Monty McNair, is by Hes Relentless out of Specialscountrychick, by Country Chicks Man.
He is trained by Jason Olmstead and was ridden by jockey Mark Jasso. Relentless Country was a $52,000 purchase at the 2024 Heritage Place Yearling Sale and turned in a final time just a neck behind the winner.
There was a dead-heat for third place as Tux Hard Shop and Proved Jess Patriot reached the wire together.
Tux Hard Shop, a brown gelding by leading third-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 out of Rated Hiclass, by High Rate Of Return, earned $16,692 for Champion Hiclass Stables, LLC. The Oklahoma-bred was bred by Jo Rice, is trained by Jason Olmstead, and was ridden by Ramiro Garcia.
Proved Jess Patriot, a sorrel filly by Jet Black Patriot out of Jess Proved Youwrong, by Apollitical Jess, also collected $16,692 for owner Bruce Key. She was bred by Josefina Guzman and Rito Sosa in Oklahoma and was a $18,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate. She is trained by Jason Olmstead and was piloted by Armando Alvidrez.
Both horses stopped the clock in 17.881 seconds, just noses apart from the top two.
On the tote board, Dassault returned $14.20 to win, $7.40 to place, and $4.00 to show. Relentless Country paid $20.00 to place. Proved Jess Patriot and Tux Hard Shop paid $3.60 and $3.20 to show, respectively.
The $2 Exacta paid $252.00, the $2 Quinella returned $497.80, the $0.50 Trifecta combinations paid $356.90 and $305.95, and the $0.10 Superfecta returned $253.68.
In the remainder of the field, Margarets Cowboy finished fifth, Fast Draw was sixth, Blaze of Gold ran seventh, Tres a Blood checked in eighth, Relentless Effort was ninth, and Ima Bigg Flash completed the order of finish in tenth.
