TULSA, OK—JULY 5, 2025—A field of promising juveniles faced off this evening at Fair Meadows Race Course in seven trials for the restricted Grade 3 $85,000-added Speedhorse Quarter Horse Futurity, contested at 350 yards for 2-year-olds sired by participating stallions.
The ten fastest qualifiers from the competitive trials will return for the lucrative final on Saturday, July 19.
Setting the bar in the sixth trial was Blowin In The Wind, who turned in the fastest qualifying time of 17.867, a 90 speed index into a 7 mph headwind. The gray filly, a daughter of multiple stakes sire Kvn Corona out of the Tres Seis mare Evans Express, drew away by an impressive length and a half to win her heat.
Owned by Brant Barley, trained by Josue Jacob Garcia, and bred in Oklahoma by Mary & Jack W Evans Jr, Blowin In TheWind was ridden to her first career win by Juan Pulido.
With three seconds in three starts. Prior to tonight's win, she picked up $2,838 for her trial win, improving her earnings to 13,978.
Second fastest on the day was Whirlaway Ilexus, who covered the distance in 17.936, into a 10 mph headwind, while winning the second trial.
The bay filly is by Whirlaway Red and out of Ilexus Corona by Coronas Prospect. Bred in Oklahoma by Alberto and Rocio Portillo, she races for owner Yazmine Torres under the guidance of trainer Leonardo Reza and was piloted by Roman Cruz.
Whirlaway Ilexus also scored her first victory in five starts. Never off the board she has earned $19,148.
The third fastest qualifier emerged from a determined effort by Midknight Ryder, who dueled fiercely to prevail by a nose in the final heat with a clocking of 17.955.
The sorrel gelding is a son of leading sire Tres Seis out of Lj Moonrise by Separatist. Bred in Texas by P & J Racing Ltd, Midknight Ryder is owned by Juan Barrera, trained by Fidencio L. Jimenez, and was ridden by Giovany Estrada. Notably, he was a $25,000 repurchase at the 2024 TQHA Yearling Sale, who also broke his maiden in the trials, his second career start.
These three will headline the field of ten juveniles returning for the $85,000-added Speedhorse Quarter Horse Futurity final on Saturday, July 19 at Fair Meadows in Tulsa, with all eyes on which 2-year-old will add their name to the prestigious list of past winners at 350 yards.
