EDMONTON, ALB–JULY 5, 2025–Two competitive trials were held Saturday at Century Mile for the $20,000-added (CAN) All Canadian Derby, and it was Flash Me A Corona who emerged as the fastest qualifier of the day.

Flash Me A Corona surged to a 1 1/4-length victory in Trial 2, clocking a 97 speed index in 17.766 seconds. The second-fastest qualifier came from the same heat, with Sizzles Boss finishing second in the 350-yard race with a time of 17.910 and a 93 speed index.

In Trial 1, Rjs Boss delivered a front-running performance to win the heat and post the third-fastest qualifying time of 18.130 (SI 87) over a 20 mph headwind.

Flash Me A Corona, conditioned by Craig Smith and ridden by Ricardo Moreno, looked sharp from the gate and pulled away confidently to record his second win in a week. Owned by Janet Patriquin and Ralph Danard, the brown gelding by Obsessed With Corona has now amassed over $53,604 in career earnings from 13 starts, with 5 wins, 2 seconds, and 5 thirds.

He was bred in Alberta by Ralph Danard out of Look Back Moonflash, by First Moonflash, and is coming off recent wins in the Millarville Maturity just four days prior and the Century Mile Horsemen's Derby Division 1 in May.

As a juvenile, he was a multiple stakes-placed runner, finishing second in the Alberta Bred Futurity-G3, and third in both the Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity and Sales Stakes Futurity.

The consistent stakes veteran, Sizzles Boss, was trailing him closely in Trial 2. Ridden by O. Amador Hernandez and trained by Buckey Stockwell, the gelding lacked the late punch to match his rival but still secured the second-fastest qualifying time of the day.

Owned by Cinch Up Syndicate and bred in Alberta by Glenn Wills, Sizzles Boss is out of Northfork Sizzle, by Sizzlin Red Corona. The son of Jd Wagon Boss has compiled an impressive résumé of his own. He’s earned $61,861 from 9 starts with 4 wins and 3 runner-up finishes, including a victory in last year’s Alberta Bred Futurity-G3 where he defeated Flash Me A Corona.

This year, Sizzles Boss has twice placed behind that same rival—once in the Century Mile Horsemen’s Derby Division 1 and again in the  Adequan Century Mile Derby. Their ongoing head-to-head rivalry has become a highlight of Alberta’s Quarter Horse season.

The first of the two trials featured Rjs Boss, who made a clean break and led gate to wire to win Trial 1 by half a length, posting the third-fastest time of 18.130. Also trained by Buckey Stockwell and ridden by Hernandez, the gelding is owned by Glenn Wills, who bred him in partnership with T Copithorne.

Sired by Jd Wagon Boss, Rjs Boss is out of Rj Bitterroot Babe, by El Mistral. From 11 starts, he has recorded 2 wins, 4 seconds, and 2 thirds, earning $32,639. He was third behind Flash Me A Corona and Sizzles Boss in this year’s Century Mile Horsemen’s Derby and last year's Alberta Bred Futurity-G3.
