Mr Do Chicks Prevails in Garanones Futurity Consolation

MEXICO CITY, MEX–JUNE 30, 2025–Race 9 on Sunday’s card at Hipodromo de las Americas featured the $19,500 Garanones Futurity Consolation, a 300-yard dash for juveniles who just missed qualifying for the RG2 Futurity final.

Post-time favorite Mr Do Chicks delivered as expected, holding off a late surge from El Ilusionista SR to win by a neck in a time of 15.15 over a fast track. The race was run into a light headwind, and the winner earned a 92 speed index while collecting the $10,000 winner’s share of the purse.

Mr Do Chicks was bred by Abelardo Gallegos and races for Granja La Esperanza. Trained by Juan Jose Razo and ridden by Osvaldo Cervantes, the 2-year-old gelding is by Mr Chiks Perry and out of Doyouknowhoiam, a daughter of First Down Dash. With Sunday’s win, he has now hit the board in four of five starts with two victories, increasing his bankroll to $23,650. His only off-the-board effort came in the Mexico Futurity earlier this season.

El Ilusionista SR put up a fight all the way to the wire but came up just short. Owned by Cuadra San Martin and trained by Ashley Cirilo, the son of Swing Good Reason was ridden by Nestor Duran.

Bred by Rancho Santa Rosa Chiapas, he is out of Muscles Diablo by Valiant Hero. El Ilusionista SR crossed the wire in 15.18 with a 91 speed index. The runner-up effort added $5,000 to his earnings, bringing his total to $15,700 from four starts.

Finishing third was KC Coco Cristal, a filly by Krash Cartel out of Coconut Crystal by Separatist. Ridden by Arturo Vega Moreno for trainer Marlon Quezada, she was bred by Abelardo Gallegos and races for Cuadra Mendoza. She clocked in at :15.33, good for an 86 speed index and a margin of a1 1/4-lengths behind the runner-up. Her earnings now stand at $11,000 with two wins from five starts.

The remainder of the field finished as follows: Parker Fritz was fourth, The Blues took fifth, KC Diamante came sixth, followed by KC Queen Cartel in seventh, Vicky Krash in eighth, and Marvelous Eagle completed the order of finish in ninth.
