Kgs Wish Captures April Lafount Memorial Stakes for Third Straight Victory

BELCOURT, ND–JUNE 29, 2025–Kgs Wish extended her winning streak to three with a dominant performance in Sunday’s $5,000 April Lafount Memorial Stakes at Chippewa Downs.

Piloted by Dakota Wood, Kgs Wish surged to victory over 550 yards in a time of 29.223 on a fast track, claiming the top prize in the mixed-breed feature for 3-year-olds and up. The race marked her second stakes win of the month following her triumph in the Mixed Breed Open 550 Stakes on June 15.

Owned by Betty Charboneau, trained by Jeff Charbonneau, Kgs Wish earned $2,500 for the win, pushing her career earnings to $34,468 with a record of 8 wins, 4 seconds, and 4 thirds from 21 starts. The five-year-old daughter of Daimon's Tale (TB) is out of Treasured Penny, by Special Eliminator. She was bred in North Dakota by Kenneth D. Groce.

Runner-up honors went to Whipperwilltripp, a consistent six-year-old gelding owned, bred, and trained by Rodger Botosh of Wisconsin. Ridden by Ricardo Martinez, Whipperwilltripp chased gamely to finish 3¼ lengths behind the winner and earned $1,250 for the effort.

Whipperwilltripp now boasts a race record of 2-5-4 from 19 starts and $15,130 in total earnings. Whipperwilltripp is a son of Hasta Be Fast, out of Chappy Chick (TB), by Chapel Royal.

Shesa Royal Jess completed the trifecta, another 2½ lengths back. The six-year-old sorrel mare was piloted by L. Delorme for trainer Robert Herman and owner Evan Herman. She was bred in North Dakota by John Bubel out of Tempered Reb by Sixes Royal. The daughter of Dashing Jess Perry has now banked $18,637 with a race record of 2-3-8 in 20 starts.

She’s So Fancy, Oro Azteca, and Dashing Is A High complete the order of finish.
