Tokio Rose Captures Rusty Wilson Memorial Futurity Victory at Chippewa Downs

BELCOURT, ND–JUNE 29, 2025–Tokio Rose was awarded the victory in Sunday’s $15,000 Rusty Wilson Memorial QH Mixed Futurity at Chippewa Downs after original winner Travelin Princess was disqualified for interference. The 300-yard race for 2-year-olds featured a group of rising juveniles. Ultimately, it was the post-time favorite who claimed the win.

The race, contested over a fast track with a 14 mph crosswind, saw the official clock stop at 16.046 seconds, earning Tokio Rose a speed index of 83 and her third consecutive victory from four starts.

Bred in North Dakota by Darrel H. Smith, Tokio Rose is out of Tko Sassy Zoom by Shazoom. The daughter of Famous Painted One is trained by Cole Wilson and owned by Wilson Racing Stables. Jockey Dakota Wood guided her to the victory and she earned $7,500 for the win, boosting her career bankroll to $13,125.

Travelin Princess, who was disqualified and placed second, had posted the fastest qualifying time coming into the final. Doug Demontigny bred her out of the Rare News mare Rare Hula.

Trainer Mark Allery also owns the daughter of Travelin Miracle in partnership with John Bercier. Ridden by Larren Delorme, Travelin Princess earned $3,000 for her effort and now carries a 1-1-1 record from four starts with $5,850 in earnings.

Third went to Kool Dean, also by Travelin Miracle and out of Rockin Charts by Kool Charts. The bay colt, bred by Demontigny, is owned and trained by Blaine Decoteau and was ridden by Nathan Haar. Though still a maiden, Kool Dean showed solid closing effort to pick up $1,500..

The remaining order of finish was: Bodies Blow Out fourth, Flo Sixes Ridin fifth, and R Thirtyeightspecial sixth.
