Flight Club Shatters 870-Yard Record, Proves Unmatched Versatility in Century Mile Distance Stakes

ENDMONTON, ONT–JUNE 28, 2025–Canadian superstar Flight Club once again demonstrated his rare versatility and explosive speed, delivering a record-breaking performance to capture Saturday’s $15,351 (US) Century Mile Distance Stakes.

Ridden by Scott Williams the 7-year-old gray gelding powered to the front from the break and never looked back, crossing the wire 10 1/4 lengths ahead of the field in a blistering 45.260 seconds over a fast track. The performance earned him a 97 speed index and solidified his status as one of the most accomplished and durable runners in Canadian Quarter Horse racing history.

Trained by William Leech saddled the Flight Club for owner Jerry Stojan. He was bred in California by Steve D. Burns DVM. By Foose and out of Seperate Flight by Separatist. The son of Foose was purchased for $19,000 at the 2019 Los Alamitos Equine Sale.

With the $8,136 winner’s share, Flight Club boosted his career bankroll to $204,708. The win marked his 17th career victory, with 15 of those coming in stakes company, and his first win of the 2025 season following back-to-back third-place finishes in the Century Mile Stakes on June 14 and the Old Timers Stakes in May.

He has now hit the board in 24 of 27 starts. Already the holder of Century Mile track records at both 110 yards, with a 6.91-second effort, and 440 yards, with a 21.600-second, Flight Club added the 870-yard benchmark to his growing list of accomplishments.

Willie Lump Lump, a 4-year-old chestnut gelding by Big Lew, chased home the winner to finish second, 10 1/4 lengths ahead of third. Bred in Oklahoma by Kelly Yother Equine LLC, he is out of Valdarama by Country Quick Dash and was purchased for $9,500 at the 2022 Heritage Place Winter Sale.

Willie Lump Lump races for owner Isaak Fehr and is trained by Misael Moreno. Daniel Tavares had the call aboard the two-time stakes winner for his runner-up finish. With a record of 2-4-3 from 14 starts, his career earnings now total $43,178. His most recent stakes victory came in the Century Downs #4 Stakes in October of last year.

Finishing third was SS Pineapple, a 6-year-old palomino gelding by Cuivre River, out of Zillas Amour by Birdzilla (TB). Owned and bred in Alberta by Sazwan Speed Horses, SS Pineapple is trained by Carl Perry and was ridden by Martin Ortiz. The multiple stakes winner, who captured this same event in 2023, now holds a career record of 5-6-3 from 27 starts with $53,635 in earnings.

Moccasin Annie checked in fourth, while Zivas Elvis completed the order of finish in fifth.
