Davsam Tops Qualifiers for $263,305 G2 Firecracker Futurity Final at Delta Downs

Davsam Tops Qualifiers for $263,305 G2 Firecracker Futurity Final at Delta Downs

VINTON, LA—JUNE 13, 2025—Davsam stamped himself as the one to beat in the upcoming Grade 2 Firecracker Futurity at Delta Downs with a commanding trial victory Friday evening, posting the fastest qualifying time of 17.710 a 92 speed index for 350 yards.

The final, worth $263,305, will be held July 4, with $131,652 going to the winner.

Bred in Oklahoma by Paul Tonderum, Davsam is a 2-year-old colt by leading sire Apollitical Jess out of Little Kool Corona by Corona Cartel. He was a $45,000 purchase from the 2024 Heritage Place Yearling Sale.

Owned by Chance Kiehne and trained by Viviane Hill, Davsam broke sharply in the third of six trials and was never threatened, pulling away to a full-length victory under jockey Juan Francisco Garcia, Jr.

Davsam broke his maiden tonight after finishing a close third in the $194,020 Old South Futurity in his last start May 17. He has banked $23,402 in three starts.

Second-fastest qualifier Jp Roman Train also emerged from that same heat, finishing a game second behind Davsam with a time of 17.898. The Freighttrain B colt is out of Ms Blue Intriguing by Jess Louisiana Blue, bred in Texas by Toribo Montero.

He races for JP Quarter Horses (Johanna Perez) and is trained by Leonel Hernandez. Ricardo Hernandez, Jr. rode the bay colt, who earned his spot in the final with a solid showing in defeat.

David Bustamante’s Syms Sin Tacha, a $30,000 Heritage Place yearling, was the third-fastest qualifier on the evening with a time of 17.907. The gelding by leading first-crop sire Dulce Sin Tacha, out of the Stoli mare Symphonic, broke on top and turned away all challengers to win by three-quarters of a length.

The Texas-bred was ridden by Leonardo Rodriguez for trainer-owner Bustamante has won two of three starts and banked $17,642. He was bred by Carla Moody.

Rounding out the top four was Ms Apollitical Tres, a $235,000 Heritage Place yearling purchase by Rogue Equine LLC. The filly, by Apollitical Jess and out of Miss Perrys Tres by Tres Seis, cruised to a three-quarter-length win in 17.927 in the final trial of the night. Bred in Oklahoma by Flag Ranch LLC, she is trained by Kenneth L. Roberts, Sr. and was ridden by David A. Alvarez.

Each Firecracker trial was contested over a muddy/sealed racetrack.
