GILLETTE, WY—June 13, 2025—Longshot Kcross Cuatro stunned the field with a wire-to-wire upset in the $16,000 Campbell County Hook Overnight Stakes at Energy Downs 307 Horse Racing on Friday afternoon.
The 5-year-old gelding broke sharply from the rail and never looked back, covering the 770-yard distance in 40.688 seconds over a fast track into a 12-mph headwind, earning a speed index of 94.
Guided by jockey Victor Dominguez, Kcross Cuatro held firm in the final strides to win by 1½ lengths. The Wyoming-bred son of Rgr Jungle Jock, out of Caseys Six Pick by My Special Bear, was bred by Wagonhammer Ranch and races for BDS Performance Horses.
He is trained by Skyler Greene, who celebrated the gelding’s biggest victory to date. The win earned the connections a first-place purse of $8,000. Kcross Cuatro has compiled a (27) 5-5-4 record with earnings of $62,387.
Finishing second was Baby I Du, a consistent 5-year-old gelding by Duponte out of Lil Baby Eagle, by One Famous Eagle. Trained by Tryston Matt for owners Daisy Carlson and Joe Goggins, Baby I Du chased from the three path throughout but could not make up ground on the leader.
Jockey Jacob Cardenas guided him to a runner-up finish in 40.904 seconds, good for a 91 speed index. The multiple stakes winning Oklahoma-bred, who was purchased for $18,000 at the 2021 Heritage Place Yearling Sale, added $3,520 to boost his career earnings to $86,028.
Rounding out the trifecta was High On Cuervo, a 6-year-old son of Highest Fire out of One Shot Cuervo, by Jess Cuervo. Owned by Kevin Kraayenbrink and trained by Travis Wheeler, the Oregon-bred veteran endured a wide trip from post six. Jockey Keivan Serrano kept him in contention, but he lacked a late surge and finished 2½ lengths behind the runner-up.
High On Cuervo earned $ 1,600 in purse money for the effort to bump his total mark to $122,217.
The pari-mutuel payoffs reflected the surprise result delivered by Kcross Cuatro, who returned a whopping $78.80 to win and $17.40 to place, igniting the tote board at Energy Downs. Second-place finisher Baby I Du paid $4.60 to place and $3.40 to show, while High On Cuervo, who completed the trifecta, returned $5.80 to show.
The $2 Exacta combination of Kcross Cuatro over “all” paid $61.80, while the $1 Trifecta of Kcross Cuatro, Baby I Du, and High On Cuervo returned a modest $10.00, reflecting the heavy spread of wagering across combinations. No show wagers were available on Kcross Cuatro, limiting returns in that pool.
Following the top three were Jess No Secrets, Hasta Be a Moose, Cartel Can Fly, Katies Boy Joe, and Bds Davysboldfortune.
