GILLETTE, WY—JUNE 7, 2025—Jess A Dash Of Class lived up to her name with a professional and powerful performance in the $140,400 Wyoming Bred QH Derby at Energy Downs 307 Horse Racing.
Facing a field of the top ten qualifiers from trials held in May, the 3-year-old filly surged from the rail post and never relinquished her lead, stopping the timer in 17.483 seconds, a 103 speed index for the 350-yard dash with a 15 mph tailwind.
The sorrel daughter of Jess Paint Me out of Steffiesclassic Dash, by Winners Version, was bred in Wyoming by Ron and Laurie Moosman and is owned by Eddie Jensen. Under jockey David Alvarez Jr., she broke alertly from post position one and maintained a clear advantage throughout, ultimately prevailing by a half-length at odds of 1.40-to-1.

The victory earned her the winner’s share of the purse, a check for $70,200, increasing her earnings to $155,700. Last year's QABRA Wyoming Bred Futurity winner has won four consecutive races.
Runner-up honors went to Banquet, a bay filly by Flay out of Bouquet, by Walk Thru Fire, bred by Chuck and Erica Dae Jaure. Owned and trained by Aldo Pinela, Banquet broke well from the outside and stayed within striking distance, but drifted inward through the lane and settled for second, just a neck ahead of the third-place finisher.
Luis Valenzuela rode Banquet, who earned $22,464 for her effort. The multiple stakes placed filly has three win wins in 10 starts and has earned $68,255.
Teller June, a sorrel filly by Junior June Bug out of Koris Knud Chick, by Teller Cartel, completed the trifecta for owner Alejandro Saenz and trainer Jorge Garfias. Bred in Wyoming by Dan and Kim Lapierre, Teller June chased gamely but lacked the late kick to match the top pair. Jockey Juan Rivas guided her to a third-place finish, which added $13,338 to her career earnings total of $36,660.
Wagering on the Wyoming Bred QH Derby yielded solid returns for bettors backing the favorite. Jess a Dash of Class returned $4.80 to win, $5.20 to place, and $6.00 to show, rewarding those who had confidence in her consistent form and inside post advantage. Banquet, who finished second, paid $4.20 to place and $3.00 to show, while third-place Teller June returned $4.80 to show.
Famoushandsomeman finished fourth after breaking outward. Kcross Comin In Hot was slow to begin and settled for fifth. Mr Volaris, Hot Chilly, Pew Pew 22, and A Shot of Luck rounded out the field. Y O At a Glance was scratched by the stewards.
Jess a Dash of Class, who had previously qualified with a strong trial win on May 24, now boasts a marquee victory on her résumé. Her connections can look ahead with optimism following this standout performance against the best of Wyoming’s homebreds.
