MILES CITY, MT–MAY 18, 2025–In The Vee remains undefeated after winning the $67,150 Bucking Horse Sale Quarter Horse Futurity on May 18 at Miles City in Montana.
Jockey Kody Kellenger, the qualifying jockey in her winning trial heat to the 250-yard stakes, was back in the pilot's seat for the finals. The daughter of Junior June Bug clocked a 90 speed index in 13.576 seconds on a fast track. The winning effort paid $9.60 to win.
In The Vee scored a strong finish at the final stretch with a 1/2-length victory over Heartland Xpress and rider Ruben Chavez. Kit Karsyn, ridden by Luis Peralta, crossed the wire in a photo finish with Heartland Xpress but lost the nod by a nose for third.
The 33,575 winner’s share of the purse boosted In The Vee’s earnings to $35,825, improving her record to two for two.
Dan and Kim Lapierre bred In The Vee in Wyoming out of Brindis Secret by Brindis Por Cayenne. Jess R. Matt trained the sorrel gelding for owner Eddie Jensen.
Trainer Robert Don Johnson saddled runner-up Heartland Xpress for owner Brant Barley. Barbara Barley bred the daughter of Freighttrain B in Missouri.
Heartland Xpress has one win and one second from three starts with $17,834 in earnings. She is out of Bye Bye Birdy by Hawkinson.
Third-place finisher Kit Karsyn has yet to break his maiden from two starts. Trained by Jesse Villegas, the son of leading freshman sire Dulce Sin Tacha, has earned $9,354 for owner Juanita Villegas. Steve Denny bred him out of the Apollitical Jess mare Ventura Highway in Texas.
Fastest qualifier Y O Special Effort placed fourth, and post-time favorite Im Jessa Diva moved up to fifth after Moody Kid was disqualified from fifth to sixth. Dreammy and Sj I Am Brimtastic were scratched.
