VINTON, LA–MAY 17, 2025–Delta Downs hosted the $194,020 Old South Futurity on Saturday night and the race was won by Shot Of Takillya with jockey Raul Hernandez, Jr. in the saddle for trainer Jorge Valenzuela.
Shot of Takillya, who is owned by his breeder Sunset Well Service, Inc., was making the fourth start of his career in the Old South and he came into the event off a maiden-breaking performance in the trials on April 26.
Earlier in the year he finished fifth in the $347,000 Louisiana Downs Futurity (G2) after qualifying for that event by running second in his debut three weeks earlier.
After breaking sharply from post position No. 3, Shot of Takillya battled for the early lead with Coronados Imagine in the 330-yard showdown. Nearing the wire, Shot Of Takillya got the upper hand and hit the finish line ½ length in front of his tenacious rival while Davsam wound up third, another ½ length behind the runner-up.

The running time for Shot of Takillya was 16.881 seconds. That time equaled a speed index of 90.
Shot Of Takillya earned $97,010 for his victory on Saturday and now has a career bankroll of $120,071.
Bred in Texas, Shot Of Takillya is a gray 2-year-old son of Muddy Watters, out of the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Takillya Gurl. He was a $20,000 TQHA Yearling Sale repurchase. Muddy Watters stands at Sunset Well Services Ranch in Boerne, Texas.

Runner-up Coronados Imagine, under jockey Ponce Aguilar, earned $32,984 for finishing second. Trainer Saul Ramirez, Jr., saddled the son of multiple stakes sire Coronado Cartel for owner Jose Ramos. Richard Joneson bred the $13,500 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate from the Furrtreeous mare Can Only Imagine. Also a finalist in the Louisiana Downs Futurity(G3) last March, Coronados Imagine has earned $60,794 in four starts.
Davsam, a $45,000 Heritage Place September graduate, earned $19,402 for third. Second in both his starts the son of leading sire Apollitical Jess races for owner Chance Kiehne. Trainer Viviance Hill tapped jockey Juan Garcia, Jr. to ride the Oklahoma-bred out of Little Kool Corona by Corna Cartel. Paul Tonderum is the breeder.
Sent to the gate at odds of 4-1, Shot of Takillya paid $10.60 to win, $6.20 to place and $4.80 to show. Coronados Imagine was worth $9.60 to place and $7 to show. Davsam returned $7 to show.
Jp Seisy Ivory, Syms Sin Tacha, Sweet Tempting Babe, Jess Telling Beau, San Lorenzo Knockout and Summertime Dynasty completed the field. Jc Corona Connections was scratched at the gate prior to the start.
Delta Downs will race live again next week, Wednesday, May 21 through Saturday, May 24. First post time each night is at 6:15pm. Next week’s feature races include the $243,625 Laddie Futurity (RG2) on Friday night and the $268,895 Laddie Futurity (RG2) on Saturday.
