OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–APRIL 25, 2025–JC Speeding broke slowly and then broke the track record for Paints and Appaloosas, winning the $25,000 Victoria Ennis Memorial for those breeds at Remington Park on Friday night.
Four of the competitors of JC Speeding were ahead of him as they left the starting gate. Jockey James Flores found another gear that JC Speeding had and passed those four like they were standing still late in the 330-yard race.
JC Speeding, a 2-year-old Paint and Oklahoma-bred gelded son of Chilitos (QH), out of the High Rate of Return (QH) mare High Speed Kitty (QH), stopped the timer in :16.522 seconds over the fast track. That effort broke the previous mark of :16.563 by four-hundredths of a second. The old record was set by The OSC Goldenboy on April 30, 2022.
JC Speeding, owned by Planefun LLC (Carl Duggins) of Broken Arrow, Okla., was a full length back of the four horses that broke like shots from the gate to his inside, halfway down the stretch. The juvenile gelding won the Victoria Ennis for leading trainer and all-time conditioner for these breeds, Dee Keener.

It was the fourth time Keener won this stakes since its inception in 2011. He got his first in the series in 2013 with Corporal Cash, his second in 2016 with KC Texas Lady and his third with R Cowgirl in 2023.
Flores scored his second victory in the Victoria Ennis after riding R Cowgirl for Keener. JC Speeding provided Planefun with their first victory in the this stakes event.
JC Speeding might have set off a few nearby Oklahoma Highway Patrol radar guns he was running so fast in the last 100 yards of the race. He ended up winning the event by three-quarters of a length as the even-money favorite, passing runner-up Icy Turnpike (6-1), in the late going. Flight Risk (9-1) checked in third, another three-quarters of a length back.
JC Speeding paid $4.20 to win, $3.20 to place and $2.80 to show. The rest of the order of finish was Old Habits New Tricks (6-5) fourth, A Swift Grip (42-1) fifth, Mrs PYC Painted Nova (16-1) sixth, and Uncle Don (30-1) seventh.
JC Speeding was bred by Richard Joneson. The winner remained undefeated after two starts. He broke his maiden at Remington Park on April 3 when he won by a half-length at 5-1 odds. The win in the Victoria Ennis was worth $14,760 for Planefun, improving the gelding’s young career bankroll to $25,450.
Runner-up Icy Turnpike was ridden by Cordarelton Benn and trained by Matt Whitekiller. The two-year-old daughter of Painted Turnpike has lit the board in all three of her starts with earnings of $16,185. Tracy and Luke Toyebo Jr bred and own the bay filly out of Sparkling Moondust by Crm Livewire.
Matt Whitekiller saddled third-place finisher Flight Risk for owners-breeders Amy and Brent Page of Oklahoma. The daughter of This Is An Eagle has one win from three starts and $9,891 in the bank. The bay filly out of Jess Wire by Crm Livewire was ridden by Randy Vega.
Old Habits New tricks, A Swift Grip, Mrs Pyc Painted Nova and Uncle Don complete the order of finish.
The Victoria Ennis Memorial is named in honor of the Oklahoman who was a member of the Appaloosa Horse Club Hall of Fame and Appaloosa Racing Hall of Fame. She was a prominent breeder and owner for many years before her passing in 2009.
Remington Park racing continues Saturday and Sunday, April 26 & 27. The first race Saturday is at 6pm, Sunday racing starts at 4pm. All times are Central.
