ELGIN, TX, MARCH 4 ,2026–The Texas Quarter Horse Association (TQHA) has begun preparations for the 2026 TQHA Yearling Sale, with consignment forms now available for breeders planning to participate in the annual event.
The two-day sale is scheduled for July 24–25, 2026, and will once again be held at Exposition Hall at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio. The auction is open to Accredited Texas-Bred yearlings, specifically foals of 2025
Breeders consigning horses must complete a consignment form for the sale and submit a seller information section on an AQHA Transfer Report for each yearling entered.
The consignment form is available as a fillable PDF that can be completed electronically before printing, while the AQHA Transfer Report must be printed and signed by hand.

The deadline to submit all paperwork is May 1, 2026, and officials stress that forms must be received in the TQHA office by that date, not merely postmarked.
Due to potential postal delays, consignors are encouraged to send materials early using a trackable delivery service such as Priority Mail, FedEx, or UPS.
Early Bird Nomination Offered Again
Returning for the 2026 sale is the Early Bird Nomination for the $75,000 Added 2027 Texas Breeders Futurity. Consignors may nominate their yearlings by checking the appropriate box on the consignment form and submitting a separate $100 payment with the paperwork.
The nomination provides an additional incentive for sellers, as the futurity includes a $20,000 Nominator’s Award, distributed to the nominators of the top four finishers at $10,000, $5,000, $3,000, and $2,000.
Officials also noted that the 2026 Texas Breeders Futurity purse is projected to exceed $500,000, reflecting continued growth in the program.
Registration Certificates Required
TQHA officials emphasized that original parentage-verified AQHA certificates of registration issued to the consignor must be submitted for every horse entered in the sale. Yearlings cannot pass through the sale ring without the original certificates on file.
Breeders awaiting paperwork from the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) are encouraged to check the status of their registrations.
Those who have not yet submitted registration paperwork are advised to do so immediately, with the option of paying AQHA’s $100 rush processing fee to ensure certificates are returned in time.
Sale Futurity Eligibility
All horses that go through the sale ring will automatically be eligible for the $200,000 Added 2027 TQHA Yearling Sale Futurity (RG1).
The sale has continued to grow in recent years, highlighted by an average price exceeding $23,000 in 2025. TQHA officials anticipate another strong marketplace in 2026 and encourage breeders to participate.
For buyers, the sale catalog is expected to be released in late June, offering an early look at potential future stakes contenders.
For additional information, consignors may contact the Texas Quarter Horse Association office at 512-458-5202.
