SELMA, TX–AUGUST 17, 2026– The curtain will fall on the 2026 Retama Park racing season Saturday evening, closing out the Texas summer meet with an 11-race card loaded with stakes action. First post is set for 6:45 p.m., with four stakes races headlining the final night of the season.

The closing-night program will feature the Grade 2 $230,000 Sires’ Cup Futurity, the Grade 3 $100,000 Sires’ Cup Derby, the Grade 3 $61,972 Colors of the Alamo Paint and Appaloosa Futurity, and the $39,737 Colors of the Wind Paint and Appaloosa Maturity.

The evening will also honor several members of the racing community with three memorial races. The fifth race will be dedicated to the Jerry Burgess Memorial, the eighth to the James Weller Memorial, and the 11th and final race of the meet to the Daves Family Classic.

The Paint and Appaloosa stakes action will get underway in the sixth race, when a field of seven juveniles returns for the Grade 3 $61,972 Colors of the Alamo Paint and Appaloosa Futurity.

Jvm Hot Victoria leads the field after an impressive trial performance, drawing clear to win by one length and posting the fastest qualifying time of the horses going into the finals. The filly entered the trials off a victory in the $13,350 TPHBA Paint Horse Juvenile Stakes and has put together a strong juvenile campaign, with four wins from six starts and earnings of $33,646.

Juan Luis Leon’s Texas homebred, dual-registered filly is by Chilitos and out of the Gol to Go mare Victoria Camila. She is trained by Wendy Alejandra Garcia and will break from post two, with Garcia’s son, jockey Rosendo E. Pina Garcia, aboard for the Grade 3 final.

The stakes action continues in the seventh race, with a field of ten 3-year-olds and older Paints and Appaloosas set to contest the $39,737 Colors of the Wind Paint and Appaloosa Maturity. The talented field is scheduled to load into the gate at approximately 9:33 p.m. for the 350-yard event.

La Cholula enters the Maturity seeking to continue her recent stakes success after a powerful late rally to win the $35,000 G.C.F.A. Paint and Appaloosa Maturity Stakes by a neck. The filly has now won four of her eight career starts and has earned $36,755.

Isabel Huitron’s Texas homebred dual-registered filly is by Chilitos and out of the Shazoom mare Trampstamp. Trainer Shae L. Cox will send La Cholula from post four, with jockey J.R. Ramirez, Jr., returning aboard as she seeks another stakes victory to add to her résumé.

With rising two-year-olds battling for a Grade 3 title and an accomplished group of older runners meeting in the next race, the back-to-back Paint and Appaloosa stakes will add another layer of championship racing to Retama Park’s season-ending program.
