VINTON, LA–JUNE 17, 2026–An exciting afternoon of Quarter Horse racing awaits Thursday at Horseshoe Indianapolis, as a nine-race program builds toward the day's featured event, the $75,000 Horseshoe Indianapolis QHRAI Derby. First post is scheduled for 2:10 p.m., with a talented field of ten sophomores set to load into the gate at approximately 6:18 p.m. for a thrilling 400-yard showdown.
The Derby brings together the top qualifiers from the May 30 trial heats, including several accomplished runners whose rivalries and championship credentials have helped shape Indiana Quarter Horse racing over the past year.
Leading the field as the 2-1 morning-line favorite, Tw Streakin Cowboy enters the final off a strong runner-up effort in his trial, having been beaten by just a neck by rival Wr Hott Shott. Despite the narrow defeat, Tw Streakin Cowboy secured the second-fastest qualifying time and remains one of the most accomplished horses in the field.
The gelding has compiled an impressive record of three wins and two runner-up finishes in six career starts, earning $205,013. Among his victories are wins in the $30,000 Indiana Juvenile Challenge Stakes and the prestigious $321,000 Governors Stakes, establishing him as one of the premier Indiana-bred performers of his generation.
Owned by Thomas Wylie, the Indiana-bred gelding is by Flying Cowboy 123 and out of the Escondido Beach mare Wh Imastreakinbeach. Trainer Natasha Perez will saddle the standout runner from post five, with regular rider Diego Villamil Bocanegra returning to ride the favorite in his pursuit of another major stakes victory.
Standing in his way is a familiar rival. Wr Hott Shott enters at 3-1 morning-line odds after turning the tables in the trials and posting the fastest qualifying time. The gelding broke sharply and held his lead to defeat Tw Streakin Cowboy by a neck, adding another chapter to one of the most compelling rivalries in Indiana Quarter Horse racing.
Prior to his trial victory, Wr Hott Shott had finished behind Tw Streakin Cowboy in three consecutive starts, including both the Indiana Juvenile Challenge Stakes and the Governors Stakes. His breakthrough victory in the trials not only earned him the fastest qualifying mark but also set the stage for an eagerly anticipated rematch in the Derby final.
Owned by Raymond A. Whitemire, the Oklahoma-bred gelding is a son of One Famous Eagle, out of the American Runaway mare Kontemporary. Trainer Tim Eggleston will send him from post nine, with regular jockey Luis E. Luna Diaz aboard, as he looks to prove that his trial victory was no fluke.
While the spotlight naturally falls on the two headliners, the remaining eight finalists have earned their place in the championship with strong qualifying performances and possess the talent to spring an upset. With a full gate of talented sophomores, early speed, clean breaks, and racing luck could ultimately determine who leaves with the Derby trophy.
As the afternoon approaches the featured event, anticipation will continue to build for a race that showcases not only the region's best 3-year-old Quarter Horses but also a rivalry that has captivated fans throughout their careers. Whether Tw Streakin Cowboy regains the upper hand or Wr Hott Shott maintains his momentum, Thursday's $75,000 Horseshoe Indianapolis QHRAI Derby promises one of the season's most exciting finishes.
