GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—SEPTEMBER 8, 2025—Trials for the $175,000-est. Dash For Cash Derby will highlight Friday night’s card at Lone Star Park, with a competitive group of three-year-olds sprinting 440 yards for a chance to qualify for the October 4 final.
First post is set for 6:05 p.m. (CDT), with four Derby trials (races 7-10) slated later in the evening.
Headlining Race 8 is Apolitical Time (9-5), a bay colt by Apollitical Jess out of the Fishers Dash mare Breitling Time. Owned by Jimenas Ranch and trained by Raul Ramirez, the colt will be ridden by veteran jockey Esgar Ramirez.
Flag Ranch LLC bred Apolitical Time in Oklahoma, and he was a $87,000 purchase at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.
Apolitical Time enters the trials in top form following a hard-fought victory in the $205,000 Retama Derby on July 26, where he prevailed by a head in a stretch duel. Earlier this summer, he scored impressively in his Retama Derby trial and finished third in the Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby in March.
His 2025 campaign shows a 7-3-0-2 record with $137,967 earned, while his overall mark stands at 14-3-2-3 for $145,099. The colt has raced three times at Lone Star Park, finishing in the money once, and has one prior start at 440 yards.
In Race 10, Eagles Up (2-1) will be among the top choices. The sorrel colt is by One Famous Eagle out of the Walk Thru Fire mare U R Blue and races for Mario H. Vazquez and Jumonville Farms.
Trained by Jose Sanchez and ridden by Luis L. Vivanco, Eagles Up was bred in Louisiana by Jumonville Farms and fetched $75,000 at the Heritage Place Yearling Sale.
Eagles Up comes into the trials off a decisive win in the $110,000 Sire Cup Derby at Retama on August 16, his second straight victory following a sharp trial performance. Earlier this season, he ran third in the Grade 3 Sam Houston Derby and was runner-up in his Sam Houston trial. His 2025 record stands at 5-2-1-1 with $79,620 earned, while his overall ledger shows 11-5-2-2 for $156,743, including a perfect 2-for-2 at Lone Star Park.
Both Apolitical Time and Eagles Up are recent Derby winners and bring strong credentials into Saturday’s trials. With the fastest qualifiers advancing to the Dash For Cash Derby final on October 4, fans can expect an evening of high-caliber racing at Lone Star Park.
