SHELBYVILLE, IN–SEPTEMBER 8, 2025–A full field of ten juveniles will compete for a $62,900 purse in the Leader Of The Class Sale Futurity at Horseshoe Indianapolis on Thursday, August 11.
Restricted to two-year-olds sold through the 2024 Speed Sale as yearlings or the 2023 Speed Sale as weanlings that qualified, the 350-yard stakes final is carded as Race 9 with a scheduled post time of 6:15 p.m. (EDT).
Morning-line favorite Lead Me To The Beach, installed at 3-5, enters the futurity off a pair of impressive trial wins and brings the strongest credentials into Saturday’s race.
Owned by Mark Michel, Tim Pequignot, and Casey Pequignot, and trained by Claudio Barraza, the bay filly by Escondido Beach out of Sheza Classy Leader, by Leader Of The Class, has already banked $36,380 from four starts after a third-place finish in the $196,000 Gordon Mobley Futurity in July.
She was bred in Indiana by Vanessa Fay Wilcox and has won two of four races, including a wire-to-wire trial score on August 25, where she posted a sharp 17.816 clocking and a 91 speed index under jockey Edgar Diaz. With two dominant trial performances and a runner-up finish in stakes company earlier in the season, she appears to be the one to beat in this year’s finale.
Heza Classy Cowboy, listed at 10-1, comes into the Leader Of The Class Sale Futurity as a live contender for owner Duke Racing, LLC. Trained by Anthony Cunningham and to be ridden by Luz D. Martinez, the brown gelding by leading sire Flying Cowboy 123 out of Sheza Classy Bay, by Brookstone Bay, has already won two of four starts and banked $19,275.
Bred in Indiana by Patrick Easter, Heza Classy Cowboy punched his ticket to the final with a determined trial victory on August 25, surging late to win by a head while posting an 81 speed index.
Earlier this season, he captured his maiden in May. His connections decided to geld him after a favorable mid-pack finish in an Allowance on July 30.
HF Liza Jane, listed at 10-1, will look to play spoiler for owner-breeder Lynn Haffner. Trained by Natasha Perez and ridden by Cristian Reyes, the chestnut filly by Jess Being Valiant out of BP She Paints All, by Pyc Paint Your Wagon, has started three times and earned $2,320.
In her most recent trial on August 25, she broke sharply but faded late to finish sixth, while her best effort came on July 14 when she stumbled at the start but recovered to finish third going 250 yards. Connections hope for a cleaner break and a more substantial closing effort in the final.
With dominant trial victories, Lead Me To The Beach enters the Leader Of The Class Sale Futurity as the overwhelming choice to claim her first stakes win.
