ALTOONA, IA–JULY 12, 2025–A field of talented 3-year-old Quarter Horses will break from the gates at Prairie Meadows on Sunday, July 13, to contest the $118,375 Prairie Meadows Gold Derby at 350 yards.

The Sunday card’s eighth race highlights an evening of top Quarter Horse action at the Iowa oval. First post is set for 4:00 p.m. (CDT) with the Derby final slated for approximately 5:15 p.m.

Leading the field as the 3-1 morning line favorite is Relentless Purrsuit, a gelding by Hes Relentless out of Redheads Run Hotter by One Sweet Jess. Bred in Oklahoma by owners Charles and Elizabeth Horton, Relentless Purrsuit is trained by Jason L. Olmstead and will be ridden by Ramiro H. Garcia.

The talented sorrel comes off a sharp trial win, edging away to victory by a neck with a 97 speed index. A winner of five races in 14 lifetime starts, he’s already banked over $109,000 with stakes experience including a third-place finish in last year’s Black Gold Colts & Geldings Futurity.

Next in the line-up at 7-2 is Im Missmerized, owned by Alazanas Racing Inc. Bred in Utah by McColee Land & Livestock LLC, this gray gelding by champion Kvn Corona and out of Missmerizing by Pyc Paint Your Wagon was a $21,000 Heritage Place Sale purchase.

Trainer James J. Gonzales II has tapped Joseph Belloc, Jr. to ride. Im Missmerized was the trial runner-up to Relentless Purrsuit, finishing a solid second after closing strongly from the back. He owns three wins and has earned over $74,000 lifetime, highlighted by a stakes win as a juvenile and a sharp qualifier to  the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity last season.

Also among the major contenders is 5-1 chance Too Sixy By Far, representing Cavenaugh Quarter Horses, LLC. This sorrel filly is by Corona Cartel and out of Jess So Sixy by Mr Jess Perry, bred by Cavenaugh Quarter Horses in Oklahoma.

Too Sixy By Far is conditioned by Jason L. Olmstead and will have Francisco R. Ramirez, Jr. up. The filly showed good speed in her trial when she dueled up front before finishing third, just behind Im Missmerized and Relentless Purrsuit. Though she remains a maiden after eight starts, she’s earned over $18,000 with consistent performances in trials and juvenile stakes company.

The Prairie Meadows Gold Derby promises a competitive finish at the classic 350-yard distance, with all three featured runners looking to add a Derby win to their resumes under the lights at Prairie Meadows.
