ALBERTA, CAN—JUNE 12, 2025—The $41,585(CAN) Sale Stakes Futurity will kick off a stakes double-header Saturday at Century Mile Racetrack with a field of promising two-year-old Quarter Horses set to compete in Race 1.

The 300-yard dash is scheduled for a 4:45 PM (MDT) post and features a trio of top contenders emerging from strong trial performances, led by morning-line favorite Cervezas Fire.

Breaking from post six as the 2-1 favorite, Cervezas Fire enters off a sharp debut victory in her career debut, a May 31 trial. The Alberta-bred filly posted a Speed Index of 80 and stopped the timer in 16.083 seconds over a fast track to win by a clear length.

Owned by Jerry Stojan, trained by William H. Leech, and ridden by Ricardo Moreno, the daughter of Cerveza Corona out of Getit Hot by Walk Thru Fire was bred by Charles G. Stojan. Cervezas Fire was never threatened in her trial and figures to improve with experience.

The second choice on the morning line at 5-2 is Insta Bond, who also impressed in his lone start. The gray gelding won his May 31 trial by a half-length. Trained by Craig Robert Smith for owner Darby Danard, Insta Bond will be ridden by Adrian Gonzalez, who guided him to that debut victory. Bred in Alberta by Ralph Danard, he is by Ivory League and out of Chick Gone Wild by Chicks A Blazin.

Another live contender is O Sawyer, breaking from the rail at 9-2. A homebred for Wesley T. and Susen A. Oulton, the son of leading Canadian sire First Timber and Lets Get Going by Separatist is trained by Wesley T. Oulton and will be ridden by Daniel A. Garcia.

O Sawyer has two starts under his belt and showed marked improvement in his second outing, finishing second in his trial behind Cervezas Fire.

All three favorites earned their spots in this final via competitive efforts in the May 31 trial races, which each carried a purse of $8,000. The top three—Cervezas Fire, Insta Bond, and O Sawyer—represent a mix of proven pedigrees and connections with stakes-winning experience at Century Mile.

With juveniles still early in their development, the Sale Stakes Futurity promises an exciting glimpse at Alberta’s next generation of Quarter Horse stars.

The lightning-fast 110-yard dash of the $21,400(CAN) CTM Sprint Stakes (Race 2) will take place Saturday, with a scheduled post time of 5:15 p.m. (MDT).

Morning-line favorite Fired (2-1) returns to Century Mile off a dramatic head victory in the May 10 Old Timers Classic Stakes at 300 yards. The 4-year-old gelding by Fly Thru the Fire out of Ruths Chris by Separatist surged late to nose out Miss Fancy Nancy in that effort, earning a 104 speed index.

Bred in California by Steve D. Burns DVM and purchased for $18,000 at Los Alamitos Equine Sale, Fired sports a record of 5 wins, 6 seconds, and a third from 14 lifetime starts, with earnings of $65,959. He has never raced at 110 yards but has won 4 of 7 starts locally at Century Mile. Ricardo Moreno retains the mount.

Stablemate and second choice Flight Club (3-1) will look to rebound after a narrow defeat in the same May 10 Old Timers Classic, finishing a neck behind Fired in third.

The 7-year-old gelding owns a sparkling 10-for-15 record at Century Mile, including a track record-setting 6.91 seconds at this 110-yard distance in last year’s edition of the CTM Sprint.

A son of multiple stakes sire Foose out of Seperate Flight by Separatist, Flight Club was bred in California by Steve D. Burns DVM and purchased for $19,000 at the Los Alamitos Equine Sale. His career resume boasts 16 wins from 26 starts and over $194,000 in earnings. Regular rider J.B. Botello will be aboard.
