Mysterious Hero and jockey Cesar Moreno prevail in the $70,307 John Deere Emerald Downs Juvenile Challenge at Emerald Downs on August 15.

AUBURN, WA–AUGUST 15, 2026–Second-fastest qualifier Mysterious Hero and jockey Cesar Moreno prevailed in a three-way battle to win the $70,307 John Deere Emerald Downs Juvenile Challenge at Emerald Downs on Saturday.

Mysterious Hero broke third from the inside post and quickly took a narrow advantage. He dueled throughout the 350-yard final before prevailing by a half-length in :17.990, earning an 88 speed index over a fast track.

Jose Rosales Gomez trains Mysterious Hero for owner Luis Gonzalez. Bred by J/R Robicheaux and Spanish Moss QH, the $10,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate is by champion Tarzanito and out of the Valiant Hero mare Mysterious Night.

His female family includes world champion Special Leader ($292,605). Mysterious Hero is a half-brother to stakes winner Mysterious Cartel ($267,383) and stakes-placed Mysterious Patriot ($51,910).

Mysterious Hero improved his record to 6-3-2-0 with earnings of $76,908. He also won the Beehive Futurity earlier this season.

Fastest qualifier Tomatito broke second under Jose Garcia-Segura and joined the early battle. He moved into second while dueling with Mysterious Hero but could not get past the winner, finishing a half-length back in :18.070 for an 85 speed index.

Tomatito races for owner Leobardo Bernal and trainer Juan Manuel Marquez. Bred by Brazos and Sarah Wilfong, the gelding is by One Famous Man and out of the Five Bar Cartel mare Sister Showtime. He now has a record of 5-3-2-0 with earnings of $25,737.

Third-fastest qualifier Survivor T broke on top under David Martin and was part of the early three-way duel. He was outfinished by the top two but held third, crossing the wire 1 1/4 lengths behind the winner in :18.230 for an 81 speed index.

Mario Portillo trains Survivor T for owner Hernan Torres. Bred by Jose Luis Torres Arenas, the gelding is by Political Cowboy and out of the Jet Black Patriot mare Catrina Royal Jet. He now has a record of 6-1-1-3 with earnings of $17,809.

Still in search of his first stakes victory, Survivor T finished fourth in the Beehive Futurity and third in the Firecracker Futurity at Grants Pass Consolation earlier this season.

Bss Ghost Pepper finished fourth, followed by One Fabulous Cartel, Ima Flyin Fool, Jbc Jet One, All Gussyed Up, Winter Hawk Cartel and Iza Diva.
