Foxy Cowgirl Earns Cox Ranch Prairie Meadows Distaff Challenge Title

ALTOONA, IA—AUGUST 16, 2025—Foxy Cowgirl powered to victory in Saturday’s $48,429 Cox Ranch Prairie Meadows Distaff Challenge Stakes (G3) at Prairie Meadows, earning a berth to the $140,000-est. Cox Ranch Distaff Challenge Championship (G1) to be contested on October 18 at The Downs at Albuquerque.

Breaking sharply under jockey Angel Ramirez, the 4-year-old daughter of leading third-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 surged past rivals and kicked clear to win by three-quarters of a length. Covering the 400-yard distance in 20.155 seconds on a fast track.

The victory was worth $28,973 to owner CLC Partners. Trained by Edward Hardy, she was bred in Iowa by Christine A. Hovey out of the Valiant Hero mare Foxy Millie. A multiple graded stakes winner, Foxy Cowgirl entered the Cox Prairie Meadows Distaff off a victory in the Cox Canterbury Park Distaff in her last start on July 24. She has earned $197,176 with seven wins in 13 career starts.

Runner-up honors went to Sendmecandyandarose, a 4-year-old filly by champion Kvn Corona out of Send Me This Wagon by Pyc Paint Your Wagon, bred in Oklahoma by Stacy Hill & Vicki Tebow.

Raced by Buckway Ranch LLC and Tebow Racing, the brown filly is trained by Stacy Charette-Hill and was ridden by Jorge Torres. She finished a head in front of the third-place runner. Sendmecandyandarose previously passed through the 2022 Heritage Place Yearling Sale, where she was an RNA at $40,000. She banked $8,011 for the effort to bring her earnings to $70,647.

Slippery Ann, a 4-year-old daughter of The Marfa Lights out of Sr Rode Tah Glory by Latest Version, completed the trifecta. Bred in Montana by Mark W. Cassel and owned by her breeder, Slippery Ann is trained by William Harris and was ridden by Gonzalo Valles Jr. She earned $4,005 to bring her career mark to $44,641.

Foxy Cowgirl returned $3.40 to win, $2.20 to place, and $2.10 to show; Sendmecandyandarose paid $5.20 to place and $3.60 to show, while Slippery Ann returned $9.40 to show.

Miss Kt Perry, Famous Tools, Five Bar Fantasy, Beep Beep Rev Rev completed the field. Apollitical Signs was scratched.

With her decisive second Cox Distaff regional win, Foxy Cowgirl stamped her ticket to Albuquerque, where she will aim for national honors on AQHA Challenge Championship Night.
