ALTOONA, IA—JULY 22, 2025—A field of talented 2-year-olds will line up Saturday, July 27, at Prairie Meadows for a pair of 350-yard trials to determine the qualifiers for the $30,000-added 2025 John Deere Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge final.
The trials are exclusively for Challenge-enrolled juveniles. The ten fastest times advance to the final, which is set for Saturday, August 16.
First post time for Saturday’s card is 4:00 p.m. (CDT) at the central Iowa track.
In the third race (trial 1), Toorelentlesstoquit has been installed as the 2-1 morning line favorite. The sorrel gelding by Hes Relentless, out of the Corona Cartel mare Too Tiny to Quit, is bred and owned by Pine Ridge Farm LLC (William Bullock).
Trained by Jason Olmstead and ridden by Ramiro H. Garcia, Toorelentlesstoquit brings solid credentials into the trial. He was narrowly defeated by a nose in a 350-yard maiden event at Remington Park on May 30, earning a 104 speed index. He also finished second in a futurity trial at Remington earlier in the spring and has earned over $8,900 from three career starts.
His main rival appears to be Tres A Blood, listed at 3-1 on the morning line. The daughter of Apollitical Blood, out of Miss Perrys Tres by Tres Seis, was bred in Oklahoma by Flag Ranch LLC and is owned by Larry G. Morehead and Xcel Farms (Cole Morehead).
Trained by Edward Ross Hardy and ridden by Angel O. Ramirez, Tres A Blood comes off a start in the $209,000 Prairie Gold Futurity, where she finished eighth against a deep field. She finished a close second in her June 16 trial at Prairie Meadows, after taking the lead midway.
The fourth race (trial 2) will showcase another strong group of 2-year-olds, headed by 2-1 favorite The Cowboy Chick. Bred and owned by Brenda Reiswig, the Flying Cowboy 123 filly is out of the Tres Seis mare Seis the Royal Cash.
Trained by Jason Olmstead and ridden by Ramiro H. Garcia, The Cowboy Chick is coming off a sharp maiden score on June 15 at Prairie Meadows, where she stopped the clock in :15.85 for 300 yards and registered a 84 speed index. In her previous start, she ran second by a head in a 350-yard trial at Remington Park.
Iza Good Girl, a gray filly by multiple stakes sire Kvn Corona, is the 5-2 second choice. Out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Iza Doll Face, she was bred in Oklahoma by Bradbury Racing and John D. Hammes, who also co-own her. The filly is trained by John D. Hammes and will be ridden by Alfredo Triana, Jr.
Iza Good Girl nearly broke her maiden last out at Prairie Meadows on July 3, finishing a nose behind the winner. She had also finished a close third in her previous start in trial company, beaten just a half-length.
Smoken Cowboy Joe rounds out the top contenders in the second trial. The 9-2 morning line selection is a gelding by Flying Cowboy 123, out of Midori N Smoke by Special Leader. Bred in Oklahoma by co-owner Margo Schares, he races for Schares and Brad Thomas.
Smoken Cowboy Joe is trained by John D. Hammes and will be ridden by Miguel J. Ramirez. The gelding scored an eye-catching maiden victory in a futurity trial on June 16 at Prairie Meadows, rallying from off the pace to win by a nose. He also has a second-place finish in maiden company at Remington Park to his credit.
The top performers from Saturday’s trials will return on August 16 to vie for the Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge title and a spot in the Bank of America Challenge Championships later this year.
