GRANTS PASS, OR–MAY 31, 2026–The Southern Oregon Horse Racing Association (SOHRA) has launched its “Racing Toward a Brighter Future” fundraising campaign, a multi-phase initiative designed to modernize and enhance Grants Pass Downs while preserving horse racing’s long-standing tradition in Southern Oregon.
Working in partnership with the Josephine County Fairgrounds and local community stakeholders, the project includes construction of a new paddock and jockeys’ quarters, a complete renovation of the grandstand, improved access to the inner soccer field, upgrades to racetrack safety, and enhancements that will make the facility more accommodating for a variety of community events.
SOHRA President Rod Lowe and Vice President Steven Hartler recently discussed the initiative during an appearance on The Ace Sports Radio, outlining plans for a two-phase project that aims to transform Grants Pass Downs into a premier racing and entertainment venue for years to come.
The nonprofit organization, which operates Racing on the Rogue, is seeking support from businesses, racing organizations and individual donors to help meet the project’s financial goals. Fans attending the 2026 racing season are expected to see significant improvements already underway in the grandstand and surrounding areas.
Grants Pass Downs will host a seven-day mixed meet from June 20 through July 5, 2026. Quarter Horse stakes action will feature:
June 21 – Firecracker Futurity Trials; Adequan Derby Challenge Trials
June 25 – The Director’s Handicap
July 4 – Firecracker Futurity; Firecracker Futurity Consolation
July 5 – Adequan Derby Challenge
Founded on generations of racing history, Grants Pass Downs continues to serve as a cornerstone of Southern Oregon horse racing while investing in its future.
