HOUSTON, TX–APRIL 30, 2026–Sam Houston Race Park will host live Quarter Horse racing Thursday through Saturday, building toward a major Kentucky Derby Day celebration on Saturday, May 2. Live racing begins at 10:30 a.m., with gates, concessions, and infield access opening at 9:30 a.m.
The centerpiece is Derby Fest 2026, an all-inclusive VIP experience in the infield featuring a large air-conditioned lounge, multiple big-screen viewing options, premium food, and an open bar serving beer, wine, champagne, and mint juleps. Guests can take part in themed attractions including photo areas, a champagne wall, and a replica starting gate.
Live entertainment runs throughout the day, beginning with DJ Big Love, followed by performances from Tony’s Little Big Band and Shekere Band, with Shekere Band returning to close out the evening.
A derby hat contest will be held with registration from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and judging taking place around 5:00 p.m., just before the Kentucky Derby, which is set for approximately 5:50 p.m. Wagering will be available on the full Churchill Downs card.
All tickets include access to the Main Grandstand, though premium Club Level seating is sold out, and complimentary seating is available on a first-come basis. General admission provides entry to the Grandstand and Infield, including the Rosé Wine Garden, but does not include reserved seating or access to premium or VIP areas.
The Pavilion Centre Lounge offers a private, all-inclusive option with reserved tables or suites, a premium buffet, full bar service, and multiple viewing screens.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early, secure seating, and take in a full day of racing, wagering, and Derby Day festivities at one of the region’s premier racing venues.
