ALBUQUERQUE, NM—April 12, 2026—Horsemen are reminded of several upcoming nomination and sustaining payment deadlines for New Mexico State Fair Quarter Horse stakes, all due Thursday, April 15, at the Downs at Albuquerque.
A $250 yearling sustaining payment is due for the 2027 $1 Million-estimated New Mexico State Fair Quarter Horse Futurity. The race, open to New Mexico-bred foals of 2025, carries an estimated gross purse of $1.2 million and will be run during the 2027 New Mexico State Fair meet, with trials and finals dates to be announced. Horses must have been nominated as weanlings to remain eligible.
Also due April 15 is an $800 nomination payment for the 2026 NMSF Quarter Horse Derby, which will be contested during the 2026 New Mexico State Fair meet at Albuquerque.
In addition, an $800 sustaining payment is required for the 2026 $1 Million-estimated NMSF Quarter Horse Futurity. That race, open to New Mexico-bred 2-year-olds, will be contested at 400 yards with trials set for Friday, September 18, and the final scheduled for Sunday, October 11.
All payments must be postmarked by the specified deadline. There is no grace period, and failure to meet sustaining deadlines will result in cancellation of eligibility.
