Graded Stakes Sire Woodbridge Dies at MJ Farms

VEGUITA, NM–APRIL 6, 2026–Graded stakes sire Woodbridge was euthanized April 5 due to complications associated with old age, according to a statement from his breeders and owners, MJ Farms.

“It is with saddened hearts that we are announcing the death of ‘Woody’ Woodbridge,” the farm shared. “Late yesterday afternoon, we decided it was in his best interest to be let go. He lived his entire life here at MJ Farms and gave so much to us and our breeding program. He started with some complications due to old age and is now resting here at the only place he knew as his home.”

Woodbridge was bred from the cross of leading sire Dash Ta Fame and the blue hen mare Champagne Lane. He was foaled in 1999.

Although unraced, Woodbridge was exceptionally well-bred. He was a full or half sibling to multiple standouts, including world record-setter Kendall Jackson and champion and champion producer Alice K White.

At stud, Woodbridge developed into one of the most reliable sires in the region. From 239 starters, he sired 140 winners, including 118 runners that earned at least $100,000. His progeny amassed more than $8.6 million in total earnings.

His leading earner was Mister Riptide, who finished second in the Grade 1 All American Futurity and compiled career earnings of $748,298.

His other top money earners include Miss Hi Tide SI 103 earned $647,204 and won the Grade 3 New Mexico State Fair Derby and the Mountain Top Derby, while finishing second in the Grade 1 All American Oaks and the Grade 2 New Mexican Spring Futurity.

Woodys Gold SI 103 earned $484,174 and captured the Grade 2 New Mexico Classic Derby and the Grade 3 New Mexico State Fair Futurity, along with runner-up finishes in the Grade 1 Zia Quarter Horse Futurity and the Grade 2 Mountain Top New Mexico Bred Quarter Horse Futurity.

Woody Rocks SI 101 earned $441,357 and won the Grade 1 Zia Futurity, the Grade 2 New Mexico Classic Derby, the Grade 2 New Mexico HBA Stakes, and the Mountain Top Juvenile Stakes.

Woodys Copy Cat SI 102 earned $391,011 and won the Grade 2 New Mexico Classic Futurity, with multiple graded stakes placings including seconds in the Grade 2 New Mexican Spring Futurity, the Grade 2 Lou Wooten and Sydney Valentini Handicap, and the Grade 2 Mesilla Valley Speed Handicap.

Woodbridge leaves behind a lasting influence through his runners and the MJ Farms program he helped shape from beginning to end.
