ELGIN, TX–MARCH 23, 2026–The nomination blank is now available for the 2027 Texas Breeders Futurity, a race open to all accredited Texas-bred foals of 2025. CLICK HERE to access the nomination form.
The futurity will offer $75,000 added and will be contested at 330 yards at Sam Houston Race Park. Trials are scheduled for mid-April 2027, with the finals to follow in mid-May. Exact dates will be announced at a later time.
A $20,000 nominators award is also attached to this race, creating a strong incentive for breeders and consignors. If you nominate a horse by paying the $100 early bird nomination fee and the new owner continues payments and competes, you remain eligible to share in the success. The nominators award will pay $10,000 to first, $5,000 to second, $3,000 to third, and $2,000 to fourth.
Unlike the TQHA Sale Futurity, this race is not limited to sale graduates. It is open to all accredited Texas-bred foals of 2025, regardless of whether they went through the TQHA sale. All horses must be accredited at the time of nomination.
Momentum behind the program continues to build, as the 2026 running is projected to exceed a $500,000 total purse.
Early bird nominations are due May 1, 2026. This deadline allows the race to be listed as an engagement in major 2026 sale catalogs, including TQHA, Ruidoso, Heritage Place, and Los Alamitos.
For consignors, TQHA will again include a spot on the 2026 TQHA yearling sale consignment form to indicate if you want to nominate. You can check the box and submit a separate $100 payment with your consignment fee, or have TQHA process the additional $100 if paying by credit card. If you nominate through the consignment form, you will not need to complete a separate nomination blank.
The nomination form is also available on the TQHA website. For additional information, contact TQHA at 512-458-5202 or Scott Sherwood at ssherwod@tqha.com.
