WYNNEWOOD, OK–FEBRUARY 12, 2026—Matt Dunn, president of Dunn Ranch in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, issued a statement on Thursday evening, February 12, announcing that the operation will take an immediate step back from its stabling, training, and racing activities at Los Alamitos Race Course.
The decision follows concerns that the performance of the California stable over the past 20 months did not meet the ranch’s own standards for equine health and safety.
While reaffirming a shared commitment with Los Alamitos to horse welfare, race integrity, and fair competition, Dunn acknowledged ongoing regulatory matters that have drawn scrutiny within the industry.
Rather than wait for those medication-related cases to be resolved, the ranch is undertaking a comprehensive review of its nutrition, treatment, training, and racing practices, with independent experts assisting in the process.
The evaluation, which began in December and is expected to continue through mid-summer, is aimed at positioning the operation for a potential return to Los Alamitos by September while reinforcing its commitment to safety and fairness.
“This decision was not made lightly, but we believe it is the responsible course of action as we conduct a thorough review of our program,” said Dunn. “Our commitment to horse welfare, fair competition, and the integrity of the sport remains unwavering, and we plan to return to Los Alamitos later in the season fully aligned with the values we stand for.
“We also recognize the responsibility the racetrack carries in upholding the highest standards for safety and integrity, and we respect Los Alamitos’ role in ensuring a level playing field for every participant.”
