Winter Storm Forces Third Day Of Race Cancellations At Sunland Park

SUNLAND PARK, NM—JANUARY 27, 2026–Live racing at Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino was canceled Monday, marking the third consecutive day the track has been forced to scrap its card.

A winter storm that moved in Friday and lingered through the weekend delivered persistent rain and snow, creating unsafe track conditions.

On Friday, four races were completed before the final five were called off. Saturday’s nine Quarter Horse races were wiped out, followed by the cancellation of Sunday’s nine thoroughbred races.

Nine thoroughbred races were on the schedule for Monday, but racing was officially canceled due to the winter storm conditions. Director of Racing Dustin Dix said crews are continuing to work the surface, but the track needs additional time to dry.

Dix said training is expected to resume Thursday, Jan. 29, with live racing slated to return Friday, Jan. 30, for a nine-race program.
