Pirates Loot Tops Los Alamitos Equine Sale Day 1 At $170,000

Pirates Loot, a yearling colt by third-crop sire Mpshinning, brought a session-high $170,000 Saturday to lead the opening day of the two-day Los Alamitos Equine Sale in Cypress, California.
A total of 72 horses changed hands from 95 offered during Saturday's opening session, generating gross receipts of $1,859,000. The Day 1 average was $25,819, with a median price of $16,000. There were 23 RNAs and 14 outs.
Pirates Loot Brings $170,000
Hip 100, Pirates Loot, topped Saturday's session when Joe Jenkins-West Texas Partners-Cris Wells-Burns went to $170,000 for the yearling colt consigned by Burns Ranch, Agent.
Pirates Loot is a son of Mpshinning from Jenuine Favorite, a daughter of leading sire Favorite Cartel, is a brother to 2026 Rainbow Futurity(G1) finalist Greatest Ever. The second dam, stakes winner Jenuine Joy, produced two-time champion and All American Futurity(G1) winner Imperial Eagle.
The session's second-highest price came for Hip 44, AJ Jewels N Fame, purchased by Gamaliel Garza for $155,000 from the Rancho El Cabresto Inc. consignment.
The yearling colt is by leading sire Apollitical Jess from champion producer Corona Crystal, by Corona Cartel. AJ Jewels N Fame is a half or full sibling to eight black type, including champion Walk Thru Crystal.
Rounding out Saturday's top three was Hip 108, Barrett Jackson, a Favorite Cartel colt purchased for $117,000 by Jose Flores Agent. Burns Ranch, Agent, consigned the colt, who is out of stakes winner and multiple stakes producer Just Walk By, by Walk Thru Fire. Barrett Jackson is a full brother to Ed Burke Million Futurity(G1) runner-up Ultimate Battle.
Garza Leads Opening-Day Buyers
Gamaliel Garza was the leading buyer by gross during Saturday's session, purchasing three head for $252,000.
The partnership of Joe Jenkins-West Texas Partners-Cris Wells-Burns ranked second after its $170,000 purchase of session topper Pirates Loot.
Jose Flores Agent, purchased three head totaling $164,000 to rank third among Day 1 buyers.
Burns Ranch Leads Consignors
Burns Ranch, Agent, dominated the opening-day consignor standings, selling 29 head for $1,003,000, accounting for more than half of Saturday's total gross.
Rancho El Cabresto Inc. ranked second with three horses totaling $250,000, while Edward C. Allred was third with 15 head bringing $180,000.
Apollitical Jess Leads Sires By Average
Among sires with two or more yearlings sold Saturday, Apollitical Jess led the session by average with two head bringing $220,000, an average of $110,000.
Favorite Cartel was second by average with nine yearlings totaling $463,000 for an average of $51,444. He was also the leading sire by total sales among the three leading sires.
Mpshinning, sire of session topper Pirates Loot, had 10 yearlings sell for $376,000, an average of $37,600.
Among leading broodmare sires with two or more sold, One Famous Eagle topped the opening session with three totaling $137,000 for a $45,667 average.
Walk Thru Fire was second with six totaling $242,000 and averaging $40,333, followed by Corona Cartel, whose 12 representatives brought $443,500 for a $36,958 average.
