Flying Scorpion Tops Day 1 Heritage Place Yearling Sale Opener At $130,000

Flying Scorpion, a daughter of leading sire Flying Cowboy 123, brought $130,000 to lead Wednesday’s opening session of the 2026 Heritage Place Quarter Horse Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City.

Heritage Place reported 200 yearlings sold from 255 offered during Day 1, generating gross receipts of $5,748,700. The session averaged $28,744, with a median of $21,000. There were 55 repurchases and 16 yearlings listed as outs.

“The 2026 Heritage Place Yearling Sale kicked off Session 1 today with an average sales price of $28,744 on horses sold, and the repurchases were 21% of the yearlings offered for sale,” Heritage Place General Manager Spence Kidney said. “The top 20 had a healthy average of $75,750.

“A great crowd was on hand for the pre-sale party last evening and the opening day today. We look forward to the remainder of a great catalog for the next three days.”

Flying Scorpion, Hip 190, topped the opening session when Paragon Farms LLC signed the $130,000 ticket. Marty Powers, agent for Mike Vaughan, consigned the yearling filly by Flying Cowboy 123 from Relentless Scorpion, by Hes Relentless.

Salti Dogg, Hip 166, was the day’s second-highest seller at $100,000. Leyva Racing/Absolute Refrigeration purchased the Favorite Cartel colt from the Stoli mare Trendi. Lazy E Ranch LLC, agent for McColee Land & Livestock LLC, consigned the colt.

Regina Laymon paid $95,000 for the session’s third-highest seller, Hip 77, Niner Bock. Lazy E Ranch LLC, agent for Buck Way Ranch LLC, consigned the Cyber Monday colt from This Candys Okay, by Okey Dokey Dale.

LA Racing Stables LLC led opening-day buyers with 10 purchases totaling $274,000. Tom Maher bought five yearlings for $192,000, and Red Sea Racing Stables LLC purchased five for $168,000.

Rancho El Cabresto Inc. led consignors with six yearlings grossing $293,000. Marty Powers, agent for Flag Ranch LLC, sold five head for $263,000, while the Marty Powers, Agent consignment sold seven for $235,500.

Among sires with two or more yearlings sold, Apollitical Jess led by average. His 11 yearlings grossed $627,000 and averaged $57,000.

Flying Cowboy 123 ranked second with eight yearlings totaling $410,000 and averaging $51,250. Kiss My Hocks was third with nine yearlings grossing $418,000 for a $46,444 average.

Kiss My Hocks led the Day 1 broodmare sires with two or more sold. Two yearlings from his daughters averaged $60,500 and grossed $121,000.

Feature Mr Jess ranked second among broodmare sires with five averaging $44,400 and totaling $222,000. Stoli followed with four yearlings averaging $44,375 and grossing $177,500.

Day 2 of the Heritage Place Yearling Sale will begin Thursday morning at 10 a.m., with Hips 272 through 542 scheduled to pass through the sales ring.
